British POLICE to get Mazda's

Boys in blue are now the boys in a Mazda
For the first time in its history, Mazda has been selected as an official provider of police vehicles after earning a place on the new National Policing Improvement Agency.
It has signed a four-year agreement for the supply of standard vehicles, which covers vehicles used on covert and special operations. This means that the UK’s 54 police forces will include models such as the Mazda3, Mazda5, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-7 in their line-ups.
Jason Jenkins, Mazda’s regional corporate sales manager, pointed out that the agreement will cover everything from beat cars to high level traffic specifications.
“Mazda has supplied cars to a number of police forces for many years. Police fleet managers have opted for our vehicles due to their reliability, responsive engines and agility,” he said.
“This is the first time that we have applied to be included within the official framework within one of the 18 police vehicle categories. We are delighted to have won approval in that category and, as a result, we anticipate that Mazda sales to police forces will increase significantly.”
It is expected that the Mazda3 MPS 2.3-litre will prove to be the biggest seller to police forces due to its 260ps and 380Nm of torque, which helps the car reach a limited top speed of 155mph with the ability to race from zero to 62mph in 6.1 seconds.
Peter Allibon, Mazda’s Fleet and Remarketing Director, added: “Our vehicle range and the driving dynamics and performance of our cars suit a wide cross section of requirements, which make them a good fit for police work.
“The cars will be used for a range of activities including motorway patrols, pursuit and urban driving. The Mazda3 MPS, particularly, will ensure that the police keep on the tail of many criminals.”

when I worked for GMC the police package and the taxi package were almost identical. The only difference was the light bar, and speaker mounted under the car. Some companies even chose the same glass barrier as the police were using. It was the same suspension upgrade, same engine upgrade...
