breakin the tires loose

Zoom Zoom....
Hi.
Hopefully, with all the noise above, you've heard the calm, sane answer from YaXMaNGTO and a couple of the others.
The Rx-8 suspension in the rear has been designed to optimize tire contact to the road under driving conditions. All designers of independent rear suspension sports cars have to trade-off between wheel hop and grip under steady-state loads.
Very few cars with IRS can do good burnouts (unless they have gobs of power (torque) that can vaporize the rear tires before the resonant frequencies take over to make the axle hop) because of this geometry trade off. An example would be the Ford mustang cobra's experiment with IRS in the early 2000's. For a couple of years they went with IRS - the car handling improved dramatically, but the wheel-hop on acceleration was damaging components - they went quickly back to a 'stick' axle to make their drag racing customers happy.
For the 'stang with IRS, there were a couple of bolt-ons to keep the axles pushing onto the road. This was fairly successful - but as said above, the RX-8 isn't in that niche where there are vendors marketing a drag suspension. I understand that the 'vette engined Cadillacs also have a destructive wheel-hop problem.
In my recollection, you would have to go with an extremely stiff rear bar to make much difference - this would be exteremely dangerous as it would provoke unacceptable oversteer at any cornering speeds.
I would suggest that if you are going to frequently dragrace the car, that you contact one of the manufacturers of an airbag /coil spring combo to design you a unit that would replace the stock rear coilovers. You could then street the car by lowering airbag pressure, and crank it at the strip. You will also have to play with bushings / joints until you find a good combo.
Or, buy a 5.0 for $5,000 - you'll save money!!!

this thread is scary.
to the Original Poster: If you want to do a burnout, try at an RPM higher then 3,000 or 3,500. (don't forget to turn off the DSC...haha, just kidding. )
Start letting the clutch out, keep the gas pedal down, don't pull the clutch out TOO fast, keep giving it throttle.
This really isn't great for the car but if you just want to try it out, that should do the trick.

What is AMPM? That in CO?
I saw a litter teaser advertisement on a Houston area news page but checked the Micky D's across the street today here in CO and they didn't have it.
McRib is definitely worth it's own thread...

Wow. THis thread has some serious fail. I dont remember when I have seen so much fail.
Technique and stiffer springs help eliminate the hop.
As for stiffining the rear sway 05rex8. Do you know WHY you stiffen the rear sway? It has way more to do with handling than wheel hop (which it may not help) Do you know what major characteristic you will cause if you stiffen the rear sway without stiffening the front (which you so nonchalantly suggested)? Unless you LIKE driving off corners tail first you proly want to do a little reading before spouting.
Read first, spout second.

If I didn't know what I was talking about I wouldn't have told him to upgrade the front while he was at it. It's just stupid to have a stiffer rear sway and not a front to match it. Look at my post again....
I'm not a n00b like Zumn.....sheesh.
