if you want to do a good burnout youll have to drop it from much higher than that, i would recomend about 5500 rpm. like you see 3k wont do it. If your worried about doing it dont do it at all. I mean all your doing is wasting your clutch and your new tires. and putting stress on the tranny. When mazda was testing the rx8 they where doing 7k rpm clutch drops to get 14.5 1/4 mile... so if you want to do a burnout try dropping it at 5500

thank you 05rex8
Zumn you're the noob. stop tellin me to turbo it and put nitrous on it. i asked a simple question and you're givin me stupid answers. let me count to 10 and calm down....

so does anyone have any good answers to my problem. could it be that the tires on there are just nice and have to much grip for the engine to break them loose.

If you don't know how to launch a car, and don't know what the car it telling you, you will break. That's the way it is.

I managed a 5.8 0-60 with a 7K launch and perfect 1-2 shift. I never repeated it but could consistently run 6.0-6.2, rarely dipping into the high 5's. This was measured with a Gtech... sure, that 5.8 could have been an anomoly, but it felt fast.

I wasn't doing it just to "burnout". The only way to get a decent time out of the 8 is to launch high dealing with the wheel spin, and keep it in the fat part of the powerband.

im a noob? LMAO... one thing i do know is that doing a burnout by dropping the clutch at 5500+rpm is idiotic compared to doing a burnout naturally when u are turboed and just need to step on the gas.......Im still the idiot right? G.L. when ur tranny breaks.

You do know you have to hit boost first right? You do know boost kicks in around 5000 rpm(depending on the setup) right? A turbo'd car doesnt automatically burn out if you floor it.

I suggest a 5-6k clutch dump, maybe wet the road under you with a hose or something. Also take some air out of your tires. It should be around 32-35 psi right now, I would drop it down to 20. This is will reduce wheel hop as well.

u originally said u wanted to do a burnout...then u just implied ur 1/4 time; u should of just stuck with the 1/4 time Q.....but yeah GL on ur 1/4 mile time. Do a burnout in the burnout pit to heat up ur tires so that they can be stickier with the track....thats the point of the pits.

since you're really slow to catch onto things let me clarify.

i said earlier that i shouldn't have said burnout i should have said 0-60

and it probably wouldn't be necessary to do a burnout to heat the tires up before a 1/4 mile run on a track. there isn't enough power to break the tires that loose and the track will be sticky enough to catch the even if they do break loose by some sort of miracle.

No, the tire advice was bad advice. You put drag radials, or, heaven help you, slicks, on an N/A RX8, and you'll probably hurt your 0-60 time, and possibly drop a few chunks of metal that used to be parts of your drivetrain.

An N/A 8 is going to bog with that much tire under it, unless you go ape **** on the launch, and I mean near redline launch. The best you're going to get is a couple tenths. It's not worth it.... not one single bit.

Jesus, just go for ride in a car with a mid-high 4 second 0-60 like a GTO. you'll laugh at the fact you're trying to wring out a sub 6 second 0-60 and risk f'ing up your car for it. It's ridiculous. Just enjoy it for what it does well - awesome handling and branking, and a silky smooth engine that loves to be rev'ed.

well, that's fine. the RX8 is NOT the only car that hops off the line... far from it. There are many independent rear suspension cars that do it, the GTO being one of them. It's fairly common, in fact.

technique or mods... take your pick. The RX8 hasn't had enough track time (drag racing) to develop proven suspension bits that will completely eliminate hop. Tire pressure is variable you may experiment with. Technique is the hardest, because you may not ever figure it out. Some of the people here who seriously race their RX8's at the track have invested time and effort to do it, but you're not going to get a perfect answer from a forum. You have to see it done correctly in person, or figure it out by feel. Dumping the clutch does not constitute "technique", btw.

Just my 2 cents.

upgrade the front while you are at it

Just to re-iterate this point....

The Base RX-8 Sport does NOT have DSC unless you opt for the sport package (suspension, sunroof, DCS, etc)

Please Please Please think harder for like 2 seconds before you post Zumn... you dont even know that RX-8s can come w/o DSC.....

Wow. THis thread has some serious fail. I dont remember when I have seen so much fail.

Technique and stiffer springs help eliminate the hop.

As for stiffining the rear sway 05rex8. Do you know WHY you stiffen the rear sway? It has way more to do with handling than wheel hop (which it may not help) Do you know what major characteristic you will cause if you stiffen the rear sway without stiffening the front (which you so nonchalantly suggested)? Unless you LIKE driving off corners tail first you proly want to do a little reading before spouting.

Read first, spout second.

this thread is scary.

to the Original Poster: If you want to do a burnout, try at an RPM higher then 3,000 or 3,500. (don't forget to turn off the DSC...haha, just kidding. )
Start letting the clutch out, keep the gas pedal down, don't pull the clutch out TOO fast, keep giving it throttle.

This really isn't great for the car but if you just want to try it out, that should do the trick.
