BMW M1, Super Rare, Influenced by Lamborghini?!
Very off topic, I know but equally as cool..
Did you know BMW partnered with Lamborghini to build the M1? I never knew that until I started doing research on WikiPedia. The engine is a Lamborghini and obviously the body style was heavily influenced by Lamborghini as well.
The only thing BMW about this car (in appearance anyway) is the front grill (albiet much less pronounced) and the racing paint job.
Hope you enjoy it, I cant take credit for the find, it was on one of my RSS blog feeds.
Pics after jump (perhaps someone can post them here too?)
PS: This car is number 1 of 79 M1s made in 1979, how rare?!

That thing is hideous and just slightly over priced. If you really want to sell your relic I'd suggest posting it in an appropriate area of the forum, or better yet another forum all together.

Why is it a 1979 with a production stamp of Jan. 84?
Anyway, nice car. There used to be a white one in the showroom of Don Rosen BMW near my parents place outside Philly for the longest time. I wonder if its still there....

The M1, Delorean, Lotus Esprit and many other hot cars of the day were all designed by world famous Giugiaro which is where the resemblance comes in.
Being introduced in an era where the average 0-60 was like 15 seconds, the road version of the car (which did 0-62 in 5.6 sec) was very fast for the time period and had almost 80 hp more than a same year Corvette.
When I drove the car in Project Gotham 4 I found the handling was excellent and speed was sufficient.
