Bentley Continental GT
Bentley Continental GT
I was finally back in Destin last night and pulled up next to a black Continental GT at a stop light. I looked at the driver and he seemed to be only about 30 years old, lucky dog. I gave him the thumbs up and he just nodded his head and looked forward for the last 2 minutes until the light turned green. Then he pulled into the shopping center where the only things open are the Sonic, Cracker Barrel, Best Buy, and Petsmart. It just seemed wierd to see that great a car headed for one of those places. But I guess if I were him I'd still go there too :o .
Well, I just thought it was interesting and was wondering if anyone else had the chance to see one yet and hear some thoughts about the car. After watching the Fifth Gear in which they had the car at 190mph and it was still pretty stable I have to say that this is definitely the best bang for the buck in any class of car. I mean, I love my 8 but I'd never regret giving it up for the chance to have that car for a year or so.

I see them often in Palm Beach. They are huge! I agree, they are truely a world class automobile. Today I also saw a titanium grey RX8 like mine, parked on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, I believe that the RX8 is and will contiune to be exotic enough to always turn heads...especially when the rear doors open up!
Awesome car it will be on my shopping list in about 3 years time when they become available second hand for around AUS $200,000
I tried to keep up with one as it was accelerating , had no chance its a masculine but very elegant car the interior is brilliant and comfortable as , they sold 1,690 in the UK in its 1st year of release its killing the Mercedes s class and the Mercedes Mayback the BMW 7 series cant touch it .
cheers

did a test with 3 other 12-cyl cars and it came in last. I would have gotten the Aston Martin if I had that kind of money.
I would get the Vanquish if I could but that is an added $100K. Maybe the GT2 would be the car to compare it to? It only cost around $30K more. I just like the Bentley, the way it looks and what you get for the money is hard to beat. I should have followed the guy and asked if I could check the interior out.

Yeah, some folks are wierd, but I have never turned down someone interested in the car. Oh well, maybe next time I'll see one with a driver that actually smiles once in a while.
The GT2 is not a competitor. In terms of pure acceleration, handling the GT2 would eat a Bentley Continental GT alive. Not quite as nice inside as the Bentley, but not bad either. The direct competitors for the Bentley would be the DB9/Vanquish, Mercedes CL65, Ferrari Scolinetti. Was tested recently in Car & Driver against these cars (although they could not get a CL65, so they subbed a CL 600), and it cam in 4th out of 4 cars. Too unwieldly. I was over in Westwood a couple weeks ago, and the "Closer" premiere was being held there, when I came out of the bar I was at I saw I had 2 Bentley Continental GT's parked right beside me. I was awestruck...a Bentley sandwich !
I've driven it, nice enough car, but -- VW platform, VW powertrain, some VW interior bits, what are you really paying $150k for?
Drives like a big, heavy German luxury sedan - good acceleration, lazy in the corners (5,000lbs+).
I prefer the Maserati Quattroporte -- yes it's a sedan, but it drives like a sports car, looks really hot and has a 400hp Ferrari V8 under the hood.
Where else can you get a Ferrari V8 for $90k? A relative bargain!
