I was just looking at that and wondering if someone posted anything about it. I'm, admittedly, a bit of an audi fan (especially since I picked up my S4) but I've never been a huge fan of the TT, even the S version.
This car, on the other hand, really grabs me. I'm still not a huge fan of the main body lines, but the appearance changes really help to give it a more aggressive look that appeals to me. The engine is what really catches my attention for some reason. In stock form is sounds like it delivers some impressive power. It seems like an engine that will respond well to modifications and tuning as well, so I can't wait to see the potential behind it. I'm also really digging the sound, even in stock form. I'm actually a little surprised it has an exhaust note that aggressive.
Obviously the price tag is of concern and one of my biggest disappointments. It seems clear that I wont have a chance of being an owner any time soon. It sounds like it's somewhat reasonable for the performance, at least. It definitely seems a bit on the high side... I feel like even I'd find other more desirable options at that price point. I'd like to see more reviews/tests of it before saying much more.

The TTRS, at least in Europe had the DSG tranny which would propel the Audi TTRS from 0-60 in 3.6 Seconds.
Yes thats as fast as a Dodge Viper and countless other cars.
heres the Catcher, well from what I read.
Audi wont offer that Tranny in the US and instead it'll be a manual...so 0-60 number should be roughly with the BMW M1... so ~ 4.6 seconds to 60...

Depending on how exact you want to get with the price range, it could be tough. The cayman S seems reasonably close in price and I'd definitely love to have on of those, though the TT RS might be enough to win my vote over the cayman. (See more below)
The S5 never caught my attention really, mostly as a result of the 4.2L V8. I'd much rather the 3.0T S4. I love the 2.7L biturbo V6 S4's (what I have) and the new supercharged 3.0T, but the V8's just didn't appeal to me. I have to thank you for mentioning the S5 though. When I did some quick fact checking, I found out that the cabriolet (convertible model) actually had the 3.0T and the 2012 model of the normal S5 coupe will also use the 3.0T. I still think I'd prefer the S4 for looks and the fact that it's a few hundred pounds lighter. I'd also prefer having 4 doors.

I was seeing that also. In terms of performance numbers and bragging, it sucks that the DSG wont be offered. I really don't have anything against cars that opt to use those transmissions for the best performance/shifting possible. That said, I love shifting through gears and I'm not sure I'd enjoy a DSG nearly as much as the 6 speed. In that regard, I'm kind of glad that's what is being offered, even if it does mean lower performance numbers. Nothing against the 1M, as it's a great car, but I'd personally still favor the TT RS.

Historically the TT has always looked to me like a squashed [VW] bug. But this latest edition really looks very good. And the RS' 360 Hp, AWD, and magnetic suspension are really nice!
Of course, you could have two RX-8's for that sticker.
I purposely went with the A5 as I didn't want a big gas guzzling V8. But if a near future S5 is powered by the current S4 s/c V6 with S-tronic transmission I may go that route.
The TTRS is certainly much lighter and as we know from the RX-8 light weight can make all the difference.

I've always wanted to like Audi. I love their styling, interiors, and their race pedigree (Le Mans). But I just cant get past their drive train layouts. All that weight up front scares me away. A quick google search gave me 58/42 front/rear (is that right?), thats just horrible. At that price point I would deffinitely lean towards other options, probably Porsche or BMW.
If Audi ever learns the correct place to put the engine, then I might seriously consider one.

It really doesn't matter where they put the engine in the A5/S5, it's a gorgeous GT vehicle.
