Any way to mount in fwd -12b/13b/MSB???
I have a 1967 Austin 1100 4dr that I bought originally to put a badass motor in - ie:wankel. Problem is it is a few inches wider than a mini and fwd. I started my project and during teardown I bought a RX-8 and have spent my time with that for the past couple months. Now back to the old car. I have contacted Kennedy Engineering for some well needed info and product advice but I was wondering if anyone here had any additionnal information to help me out.
I would really like for it to remain a fwd vehicle. I have the engine bay totally empty, front subframe out. Now I'm hoping for some info (hope this can be done) or I'm just going to put in a or 1.6l prince or v-tec = last result.
The car:

A wankel in a honda------- -----it has been done.

For rear engine, rear wheel drive set-ups the Renault UN5 transmission is a good swap. So it can definitely be done up front
You should PM PhillipM, he will probably be able to hook you up and possibly even help with the bellhousing.

Mazda did it in the late 60s early 70s on the Luce R130 rotary coupe(the most beautiful Mazda car ever), the configuration they used was a longitudinal mounted engine instead of the old boring transverse one. Parts are hard to come by but they do come by once in a while, check Japanese auction sites and you might get lucky.
Here's a pic of the R130 engine/transmission.

Whilst a flipped UN5 would be the strongest option I think it's overkill for your application - and I'm not sure if the bonnet would be long enough to mount in longitudinally? I can get the measurement from the diff centre to the end of the engine if you like.
Personally I'd stick it on a Peugeot BE gearbox, easy to adapt, but I think they'd be a right pain to find over there.

speaking of trannies and bell housings... wtf has no one thrown out a good idea yet for a tranny on the 8? I havent looked yet. But there's got to be a decent answer out there that isnt the FD tranny, or a purpose design(race/$$)

There are t56 adapter plates and bellhousings out there for the Fd3s market, it shouldn't be hard to swap one.

...at the mini meet many things were discussed. If I can find a decent fwd bellhousing/transmission swap I'm on it. If I were to do a rwd transfer I would possibly go with the msb, length of the longblock may be a problem. RWD conversion just has that much more thought to be put into the rdiff, I would probably go with a cushman 9inch and swap the gears....Any ideas? I want this build to go right, and who knows? Maybe dgrr will have an Austin to add to the mix next year.

Looks like it has come down to one engine per drive type, much serious thought has gone into it and if I end up taking the easy way out if gonna mount a honda H22A1 for standard front wheel drive. I have been entertaining the idea of a awd powered by Nissan Pulsar GTiR SR20DET, this would obviously be the most radical. And since measurements have proved a wankel won't fit sideways I am mostly leaning toward a 12b considering the age of the car, a 13B-MSP would be really awesome but I am not to sure if the electronics end of it would give me a migrane or not.
Just sold my 13B-REW. I think it is just way too much for this dinky car, got a good price for it. (It was from my 94 r2 that got assed 9 yrs ago)

The 5 cylinder 2 litre engine is another beast and was sold both in NA and turbo trims.
They all were meant for or used in FWD applications. Basic electronics, tons of parts.
I have some links i could share, let me know!

I don't like fiat. If it came down to it i'd get a cosworth, but availability and accessability is zenith.
I have access to the cars/motors i've mentionned. I do have a budget (the 8 takes most of it) and selling my high output rew makes things a little more realistic.
