Am I the only one who finds this thing hideous?

Everyone loves to hate on Bangle these days, but to me, this thing is far uglier than anything from BMW.

No. No, you're not. It just looks wrong. The whole arc thing is just wrong. The funny thing is that the articles I read praised its appearance.

Actually, I think it is the first 4-door from MB that I find attractive.

Gambit 12-10-2004 12:28 PM

it looks like someone sanded all the corners off of it

czr 12-10-2004 12:53 PM

That first pic makes it look "sloppy" and unproportional. The side view is not bad at all.. but the middle reminds me of the Acura TL.

I thought the same thing, with a little difference. To me, it looked like someone took an S-class, bent it longitudinally, then sanded off the corners.

Gambit 12-10-2004 12:57 PM

It would be funny if you rear ended an suv in that thing. You'd slide right underneath...I bet you'd lift the back of it off the ground.

Exactly. It's like the mags have this attitude that everything M-B designs is some kind of masterpiece.

mysql101 12-10-2004 01:17 PM

i dont care for it

RX Renesis 12-10-2004 01:20 PM

isn't that thing suppose to be really powerful for a sedan? something in the power range of a M5?

rx8cited 12-10-2004 01:21 PM

Barf! It's fugly.

Right. The AMG version, the CLS55, will use the same 469 hp engine as the E55. The regular 500 uses the same 5L V8.

misterwilson007 12-10-2004 04:26 PM

I guess it look okay........maybe put some 24s on it!!!

Butch Brown 12-10-2004 04:29 PM

Chrysler influence yuk, just like Ford influence on Jaguar, yuk!

mikeb 12-10-2004 04:45 PM

I'm not liking it
I dont like the headlights
I would have to see it in person to make a final call

PaulieWalnuts 12-10-2004 04:47 PM

I think minus the headlights, it's gorgeous.

Aratinga 12-10-2004 06:58 PM

It looks droopy to me. All the downward curves make me think the thing's made of something soft and gelatinous and it's losing the battle with gravity.

They should provide a complimentary Rx for Viagra to any man who buys this car.

RX Renesis 12-11-2004 02:47 AM

i think it's just too too way too rounded... just like with all the new benz.... they're too rounded.. one expections... well a few... the C-Class(non coupe) and the SL is alright i guess....

RXE16T 12-11-2004 02:54 AM

One butt ugly Merc!

markd 12-11-2004 04:20 AM

It's a beauty compared to the new 3-series line that's coming out. Those things are just horrendous.

rx8wannahave 12-11-2004 08:05 AM

I don't think it looks too bad but it looks SO LONG! That is the main problem I have with the car is that it looks like it was steped on or something.

kilted 12-11-2004 09:20 PM

I think it is gorgeous, that line wrapping around the front wheel well and then stretching all the way to the back is a particularly brilliant touch. It looks low, sleek, elegant, a perfect look for a luxury sedan. It isn't a very agressive look but for the type car it is I think that would be a mistake.

Of course this is just my opinion, and many of you might disagree with me because while I love my 8 I don't think they are particularly attractive cars from the outside, but I am perfectly ok with that because while I particularly dislike the nose on the 8 I can't see the car's nose while sitting in the driver's seat :-)

Equis 12-13-2004 08:50 AM

What an ugly POS fugly ass thing!!!!!!! Looks like the Mercedes rendtition of a Scion TC. Yuuuck......

MadRonin 12-13-2004 09:11 AM

I think it looks great. I really like the sweeping lines. Now, I'm just wondering how long it will take Hyundai to bring out a car that has similar lines like they've done with all their recent "high end" cars. :D

DreRX8 12-13-2004 10:00 AM

I'm not a fan of it either--however I still think it is marginally better than alot of those Bangled BMWs (7,5,Z4). The interior is top notch though.

MTLbroker 12-13-2004 12:59 PM

Nice! But I think the whole silver color car thing has been done to death. Can they not come up with other colors?

mysql101 12-13-2004 01:09 PM

depends on what age group they're targeting. going with a burnt orange $100,000 car isn't going to fly so well.

RX Renesis 12-13-2004 05:56 PM

anyone know whats the retail on one of those?

BlueEyes 12-13-2004 07:06 PM

I think I heard the CLS500 will be about 65k, and the CLS55 at about 90k.

BlueEyes 01-18-2005 09:36 AM

I just found a couple more pics in which I think the car looks great

Mark me down as a no.

BlueEyes 01-18-2005 10:27 AM

What luxury sedan do you think looks better?

RX8-79 01-18-2005 11:19 AM

Acura TL and RL, Audi A6 and A8, BMW 5 and 7 series, Cadillac CTS and STS, and Infiniti M45 sport, to name just a few that look better.

BlueEyes 01-18-2005 11:24 AM

haha, well there you have it.

Sorry, even dressed in black, I still have to ask... WTF is M-B thinking?

grnrx_8 01-18-2005 01:21 PM

I saw it at the Auto Show this past weekend here in Reno, looks pretty good in person, the sticker price on it was $125k... I have to say though, if I had that kind of money to throw down for a car, it would not be on this one

fluque 01-18-2005 01:22 PM

The first pic reminds me of a citroen....
I agree, it looks bad

Amazingly there are multiple $100k + orange colored cars in my parking garage. Thankfully none of them are burnt orange but are more like Grabber Orange.

SHOWOFF 01-18-2005 02:52 PM

Those headlights are terrible. Everything else looks great. I love the sideview. I just don't understand what is up with all the luxo's and this huge notch in the side that has been carved out. Acura started it.

LNWLF 01-18-2005 04:47 PM

The profile is hideous, it looks like an elongated silly putty car.
