Am I the only one that has been told this?
Ok so I was at the dealership today, when a service guy asked me"do you know what you just did wrong?" My reply to that, was no,he told me since I have a rotary engine I am suppose to always tac it up to 5-6g rpms then immediately turn the key off,due to it being rotary and the ports get clogged up between drive times... im bumfounded cause this isnt my first performance car(or my last),but my first rotary... Ive asked a few other friends who have had rotarys and there confused also....So has anybody else heard of this ??

He's full of ****. The only time it's necessary is when turning it off cold. And as the owners manual states, is to hold it at 3k for 10 seconds and turn off before the revs drop. As long as you have the updated starter, latest ecu flash, a good battery, good coils and good plugs, it's not really necessary at all.

I believe its towards the back in a little blurb about cold starts or something. I'd have to look at it again to find it's exact location.
Either way, If you're worried about it, don't turn the car off cold. If you're still worried, a blip of the gas to 3 or 4 k then kill it is all that's needed.
All it does is keep the fuel from dumping into the combustion chamber at idle.
When you hold it at 3k for 10 seconds, its just getting the engine warmer and turning it off keeps it from dumping fuel.

Well, I had the latest flash, new coils, starter, etc. and I still accidentally flooded it after a flip flop incident when it was cold so don't take that as gospel. Just follow the owners manual when turning off cold or do what I do and just don't turn it off cold unless absolutely necessary.
Of course I have the BHR ignition kit now so I shouldn't be able to flood it but I still holding it at 3k and switch the ignition off when I am putting her in the garage for the night.
Flooding only happened to me twice in the many years I have owned the car and both times were due to my stupidity. But trust me when I say it is a pain in the ***. Both times I followed the factory deflood process and it worked both times but make sure you have a good battery.

It is ALL a load of Bullshit, just like some say you should cool down a rotary, again a load of Bullshit as all you will do is heat it up more (doing a cool down...which is OK for the Turbo If any car has one).
I have NEVER flooded my car, I only follow ONE Simple Rule, Never Turn OFF if the first of the 3 RED LED bar is still ON.
Never Drive OFF if the first of the 3 RED LED bar is still ON.

When you QUOTE someone you are talking specifically to them.
'Rx8mommie' Avatar, the Picture of the RX-8 is a SERIES 2 RX-8.
That is ALL RX-8's made on or after April 2008...
Known as 2009 Model Year...
So if you own a series 2, the information I talked about and addressed to her the OP pertains to all series 2 RX-8's..
If you do not own one then it does not 'exactly' apply to you because series 1 RX-8's do not have this dashboard and LED temp indicator feature.

Buncha snobs and your LED bars.
EDIT: Oh, and the whole "rev to Xk RPM and shut it off" deal is from the instructions for an abbreviated drive cycle that advises to let the car warm up for 5 minutes, then to rev to Xk RPM for Y seconds prior to shutting off (on the DVD, I believe). I do not recall those instructions explicitly saying to shut it off while the revs are up there.
