Mazda has stated that the new MPV is NOT coming to the North American market... too small compared to what we're used to in a minivan...

The engine is detuned to something like 241hp and i'd say the front looks more like the MS6 and the upcoming CX-5.

I was saddened to read about it's planned absence from our shores. Even if it had a version of Ford's v6 in it I would be happier than it not coming here. The statement about it being too small is disappointing since it's larger than the current one in every dimension other than height. I guess this means that the decision is pretty concrete that Mazda gets to share a mini-van with Ford in the US market for their model change.

Look like the closest thing to a minivan that Mazda will sell in the US is the Mazda 5:

The MPV is a mini-minivan. The 5 is a mini-mini-minivan. While nither makes too much sense to me in the US market, I think the MPV would be a better choice to sell here than the 5.

I agree with you. I really don't know why Mazda is selling the Premacy/Mazda5 in the US market. If I had to pick... I'd have gone with the MPV. On the other end, I'd have also brought over the Demio/Mazda2. Maybe upped it's engine to the 2.0L MZR derrived from it's current 1.5L. Seeing as how Honda is looking at bringing over the Fit with it's 1.5L iVTEC engine as a 4 door gas sipper.... Toyota answers with the JDM Vitz, Nissan the March... Mazda would need the Demio/Mazda3 to compete. And it would... it always wins hands down against those other in compros... simply it's sportier and more fun to drive.

My vote is for the Verisa to come here and I'm very excited about what the CX-7 should do for Mazda. The prospect of something else sporty sharing elements with the 8 and the MX-5 also has me up-beat but I'm not quite sure if the US is ready for a $38000 Mazda crossover vehicle. I guess we'll see.

I'm also confused by Mazda...so they say the new MPV is too small for the US, yet they build the Mazda 5 which is a mini-mini van???

Mazda, don't be dumb...bring them both. Didn't Mazda complain they needed more cars in their lineup and further complained that they had to stop building (or spending too much time and money) on sports cars. Yet...you now add two SUV/Wagon/etc while removing a good mini van like the MPV (which is bigger than it looks inside people).

Also, they want to price the CX-9 at $38,000 and the CX-7 at $30,000???? In my flawed opinion...this is a mistake. Sure they will look very nice and be quality products, but they will also be significantly past a normal family’s budget.

I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed in Mazda (while I know things can change and it's not out yet) because they priced the CX-7 out of my price range that's for sure. I thought I could have a RX8 and it's bigger cuz in my garage...oh well.

The Verisa... mmm. Yeah I'd like that, but unlike in JDM (as usual) Mazda needs to make sure that they offer it with a stick. Better yet... make them all AWD too. I wouldn't mind having one of those in my driveway... espcially a Mazdaspeed version.. AWD with the turbo MZR engine. Oh yeah!

$38k for the CX-9 and $30 for the CX-7?!! Is Mazda on crack?!! Well maybe the 7 is not so unreasonable, but the 9 sure as hell isn't. If Mazda does try to sell at those prices, it's going to flop.
