And now it looking like the 4th gen will be about the same as the 3rd gen. But I guess hairdressers have to drive something.

It's also a shame that people want to call the current Eclipse a 3rd gen. because the new car doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the DSMs, lets hope the upcoming model does.

There will also be an AWD option with this motor.

Obviously it will look similar to the concept, thats a lot of camouflage on that test vehicle. 250+ hp??? "Nice" credibility for a first post...can we see any proof? I could see it happening but I am doubtful about it, and how much will all this run the average mitsu fan? BTW I never have liked the eclipse much...and by the looks of this one that thought won't change...

I'll believe it when I see it.

The Mitsu Endeavor utilizes a 3.8 DOHC v6 that pushed 225 hp. More power if Mitsu retunes it..... definately.
Now a 3.8 SOHC with Mivec, I would say this engine can get about 250 if Mitsu wanted it to, but I am guessing somewhere around the DOHC 3.8 range. Putting out a car with that kinda power would MAKE SENSE, but, I am sorry, Mitsu has not been making sense for quite some time..... especially when it comes to the shattered has been Eclipse.
I owned a v6 GT AT for 4 years. I got stares all the time, but I made that car look better than Mitsu could in their wet dreams. I was so pissed when I bought the car and THEN looked at the sticker...... I beleive less than 10% Japanese. OH, the car doesn't exist over there. AREN"T THEY LUCKY. I think the SOHC 3.0 in the "3g" Eclipse was the only thing in that car that never gave up on me. EVERYTHING went besides the engine.... and some people are getting some serious power out of RIPP superchargers.
To sum it up, I will believe what Mitsu has to offer when it is offered. They disappoint more often then not. Look at the EVO; they send it all the way to "superficial" United States and it seems so plain looking for the most part. HIDs and phat front end. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Make the damn thing look exotic.... WE ARE HUMANS, WE HAVE EYES, WE LIKE THINGS THAT ARE NICE TO LOOK AT...... DUH.
I wanna slap them right now. Going to Mitsu dealer..... brb.

I work overnite. I tend to ramble, and I would say my grammar is half assed (but better than most) and my points are well stated.
What exactly are you UM, HUH ing?
This thread is about the 4g. Someone talked about the 3.8 SOHC being used in the new Eclipse. After I threw in my .02 cents about the 3.8, I decided to vent SOME of my disgust for Mitsubishi...... no where near all of it.
Have you ever wanted to hit something or someone who disgusted you? I sure have, obviously.
So yea.... my sleep schedule is not "normal", so I apologize for any confusion and inconvenience. I am ashamed.
If you want anything else clarified, just gimme another Um Huh!!!
LOL

THIS JUST IN!!!
SPORTCOMPACTCARWEB.COM...
Underneath the new body is the same basic "Project America" platform that underpins the Endeavor SUV and Galant sedan. While the Endeavor is available with all-wheel drie, dont expect the glory of the early AWD Diamond Star cars to return with this Eclipse. Instead expect the Galant's 160-hp, 2.4-liter for and 230-hp, 3.8-liter V6 to be churning the front wheels in this coupe-there'll be no turbo on that four either.

FOUR
noun (plural fours)
1. number 4: the number 4
2. something with value of 4: something in a numbered series, for example, a playing card, with a value of 4
the four of spades
throw a four
So this mean that the V6 will have Turb?

I have an 8 full Auto Exe kit, K&N, TEINS, Borla, and 19's etc. The car in the photos above is also mine. Both of my cars are sponsored by Motegi Racing, Auto Meter and BF Goodrich. So let me ask you this smart ***, does my Eclipse look like something that a hair dresser drives?
It's one thing to not like a car and you're entitled to that, but bashing on another vehicle and making smart *** comments is another.
I have had 9 Eclipses and each of them has ended up completely modded out. I plan on buying another "hair dresser mobile" that will smoke my 8.

I don't mind the 3rd g eclipse, but I do hate the 3 slats in the door. Has anyone every seen one with them filled in? I think the car would look much better with out them, much less Pontiac like.

That eclipse does NOT look good. The side skirts look so out of place, and don't even look like they fit right by the rear wheel well. I also agree that the doors need to lose the 3 slat look....they do nothing for the looks.
Nothing compares to the second gen Eclipses in GS-T or GSX form.

No. Nothing beats the pig-ugly 1st gen. Eclipse. It was as raw as an AWD sports car should be, not to mention a sleeper. Mitsubishi needs to go back to its roots and build more of their down-to-earth Eclipses. Otherwise, it's going to continue to be classified as a chick car.

WOW! I had no idea there were so many Eclipse bashers out there. I had a 2nd gen GST Spyder, and I loved it. In fact, I'd still have it if my stepdaughter hadn't needed a car (sold it to buy her an SUV, doh!). I love my 8 as well, but the fact that gobs of power and performance are easily within reach for the Eclipse can't just be dismissed, especially when you consider gobs of increased power and/or performance are NOT readily available for the 8 (but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!). While I must say I can't stand the look of the 3rd gen, I think the concept E looks pretty good. It looks a little too Z-ish for my tastes, but I don't think the Z is that bad-looking a car either (that's right, I said it!). If the info about the 3.8L V6 is true, I think this will probably be a pretty strong car.

The Eclipse won't near the performance of an RX8 6spd--to whoever said that rediculousness. There is nothing serious about this car--it is using a Galant platform (garbage) and it is using 230HP to the front wheels in V6 form. It will be nothing more than a sporty coupe; styling will be its selling point. Think current Eclipse with 20 extra HP and some silly mitsu design. Mitsubishi is seriously listing to one side right now--they need some decent projects besides the EVO to come down the pipeline. Bring back the 2G Eclipse
