I may have to seriously look into one of these things. A 400HP LS2 + F/I in a car that weighs as much as a Miata would have one HELL of an HP-to-Weight ratio.

Also, they aint going to build a 2 seat 38K that's faster than the Vette at 44K.

If anything, maybe the smaller 5.3L V8 making 300HP would be more realistic.

GM is not building the car. Mallet is doing the drop and only 100 of them will be made currently. The package is already available from what I can see.

*Pontiac not Chevy, but i do agree it is kinda crazy....about as crazy as the Chevy Trail Blazer with the Ls2 engine in it lol...insane

the ls2 isnt that big, it might be a v8, but its a small block pushrod, its about the same size and dimensions as your average DOHC v6.

Ls2 isn't very heavy relative to the ohc ecotec, I'd say a shift forward of at most 4%, and that can be compensated for a little.

The 5.3L (L59) weighs more than the 6.0L (LS2) as it has an iron block vice aluminum, unless GM has come up with a new 5.3L engine.

So we've got a small, cheap, fairly light 2-seat 4-cylinder roadster, and they're planning on cramming a big american V8 in there.

This is going to be terrible. The car will gain way too much weight, the balance will be way off, and there's no way it will handle well afterwards. No real sports car enthusiast would enjoy a car like this. And where do you stop? You just know it's only a matter of time before they'll offer a LS7 version. Honestly, a 427 cubic-inch V8 in a tiny little roadster designed for a 4-cylinder. Why, that's preposterous!

wow, are you serious? haven't you ever heard of "monster miata's"? How about the Shelby Cobra? Would a "real sports car enthusiast" not enjoy the hell out of a Shelby? seriously dude, Do some googling about the Miata deal, a lot of folks have taken those and stuffed Ford 5.0 v8s in them and they didn't lose anything as far as handling, balance, etc. This is nothing new, and there's nothing wrong with it. I applaud them for it actually, we need more cars like this before the world becomes overrun with fugly crap like Prius's and "smart cars" f-in everywhere. Anytime any company does something like this, it just makes it that much better for all of us car geeks out there. ;)

cubic inches has nothing to do with weight. all the blocks are the same size. made of aluminum, and not that much heavier than a Renesis. The ecotec weighs in the neighborhood of 300lbs. The LS2 i think is <400lbs. Pushrod engines are light when compared to ohc engines. The LS2 is wider, but probably shorter (height), and about the same length as the Ecotec.

400hp is overkill in my opinion, I'd be happy with 250-270 in a 2800lb car personally.

OK...Thanks for the lesson, so far I found that the LS6 comes in at near 500 pounds, about 50 less if its a automatic version.

How much does the Echotech I-4 weigh (if that's the right name, sorry I forget)?

My first car (Nissan NX) had a 2L I-4 that weighed 230 pounds, so if it's similar doubling the weight is pretty significant.

I say they should stick a good V6 3L (they have a 3.5 I think) in there with about 265HP and then we are talking.... :Eyecrazy:

The LS6 is retired isn't it. The new 6.0 liter 400 hp LS2 comes in at 485 lbs. The new LS7 is a tad heavier due to dry sumping and a longer stroke crank.

Wasn't the 2L I4 engine in the Nissan NX the SR20DE? If so, that puppy, fully dressed, came in at 320-330 lbs.

Anyway, yes that was the engine but I had one from Japan sent to me and it came in at only 230 pounds....but, that was the bare engine without Tranny so you are probably right about that.

Now that I come to think of it, other than size (I assum a normal I-4 is significantly smaller than a V8)....so why don't we stick a V8 in everything?

If GM can get their 400HP V8 to hit 28mpg in the highway in a Vette (weighing about 3100 pounds) then sticking that thing (or a version of it) in a 2700 pound sadan making 250HP should yeld some nice fuel economy numbers.

That's it...a V8 in every car, that's my presidential ticket...lol
