I did a search & didn't come up with anything, so hopefully this isn't a repost.
Source: www.MallettCars.com Standard features include: The base package costs $18,000 on top of the $20,000 base from Pontiac, so $38,000. Only 100 will be built this year according to Mallett. Standered: * 400 HP V8 LS2 Engine - Aluminum block engine rated at 400 HP @ 6,000 RPM and 400 LB-FT @ 4,400 RPM * Luk Gold Clutch * Mallett-Penske non-adjustable shocks * Short Throw Shifter * High Performance Brake Pads * Stainless Steel Brake Lines * World famous Mallett body graphics * Mallett graphics embroidered on seat headrests * Show Car Detailing * Mallett serial number plaque * Professionally installed, tested and tuned by Mallett's experienced crew to exacting tolerences * 2-year 24,000 mile warranty Options include: * 6 Speed Tremac Transmission with 3 different gear ratio options * 19 inch Alloy Wheels and Tires * Mallett-Penske Double Adjustable Shocks and Coilovers * Sway Bars * Transmission and Differential Coolers * Stainless Steel High-Flow Exhaust * 3.73 Limited Slip Differential * Heavy-Duty 4 Core Radiator * Supercharger * Turbocharger I may have to seriously look into one of these things. A 400HP LS2 + F/I in a car that weighs as much as a Miata would have one HELL of an HP-to-Weight ratio. (None of those comments are mine BTW) Ill take two! |
I don't think it will happen, talk about major problems to the F/R weight ratio. What will that thing end up as...
70/30? Also, they aint going to build a 2 seat 38K that's faster than the Vette at 44K. If anything, maybe the smaller 5.3L V8 making 300HP would be more realistic. Chevy has enough problems right now to be building 400HP Solstice's's's's's's's |
GM is not building the car. Mallet is doing the drop and only 100 of them will be made currently. The package is already available from what I can see.
|
*Pontiac not Chevy, but i do agree it is kinda crazy....about as crazy as the Chevy Trail Blazer with the Ls2 engine in it lol...insane
|
the ls2 isnt that big, it might be a v8, but its a small block pushrod, its about the same size and dimensions as your average DOHC v6.

Ls2 isn't very heavy relative to the ohc ecotec, I'd say a shift forward of at most 4%, and that can be compensated for a little. The 5.3L (L59) weighs more than the 6.0L (LS2) as it has an iron block vice aluminum, unless GM has come up with a new 5.3L engine. |
A guy down the hall just took delivery of his Solstice. I'll send him the linky and see if he bites on it :)

You sure that's not www.mulletcars.com ?? Haha, couldn't resist.

god that aztek is ugly
nothing can help it |
So we've got a small, cheap, fairly light 2-seat 4-cylinder roadster, and they're planning on cramming a big american V8 in there.
This is going to be terrible. The car will gain way too much weight, the balance will be way off, and there's no way it will handle well afterwards. No real sports car enthusiast would enjoy a car like this. And where do you stop? You just know it's only a matter of time before they'll offer a LS7 version. Honestly, a 427 cubic-inch V8 in a tiny little roadster designed for a 4-cylinder. Why, that's preposterous! |

OK...Thanks for the lesson, so far I found that the LS6 comes in at near 500 pounds, about 50 less if its a automatic version.
http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/z06/ls1ls6.html How much does the Echotech I-4 weigh (if that's the right name, sorry I forget)? My first car (Nissan NX) had a 2L I-4 that weighed 230 pounds, so if it's similar doubling the weight is pretty significant. I say they should stick a good V6 3L (they have a 3.5 I think) in there with about 265HP and then we are talking.... :Eyecrazy: |

Oh Lord...I'm lost myself in LS land...lol, so we went from LT1 to LS1, to LS6, now back to LS6 and LS7????
I"m Lost as Shhhhhhh.....lol (children, bad words are not nice...FYI...lol) So tell me, do I have the LS genealogy right now? Anyway, yes that was the engine but I had one from Japan sent to me and it came in at only 230 pounds....but, that was the bare engine without Tranny so you are probably right about that. |
Now that I come to think of it, other than size (I assum a normal I-4 is significantly smaller than a V8)....so why don't we stick a V8 in everything?
If GM can get their 400HP V8 to hit 28mpg in the highway in a Vette (weighing about 3100 pounds) then sticking that thing (or a version of it) in a 2700 pound sadan making 250HP should yeld some nice fuel economy numbers. That's it...a V8 in every car, that's my presidential ticket...lol |

And just today I read in the wall street journal that GM is failing and is going to sell its stock of Subaru.

Any specifics about how GM is failing? have an article? EDIT: maybe this one? |
The LS2 Solstice will be awesome, and unless you're talking about top speed, it will probably hang with a Corvette. Plus it looks better IMO, and costs $7,000 or so less. Frankly, I'm surprised GM isn't doing this themselves. The Solstice is closer to what the original Corvette was anyway! This car will be great for guys who would like to have a Cobra kit car, except for the tiny size and fair-weather-only nature of them.
edit: GM doesn't do LS2's in every car because of manufacturing costs. I have to wonder though, why couldn't they lop off a couple cylinders and make 300 HP? If we're talking about 50 HP per cylinder, I mean. Build a LS2-cousin-V6-powered midsize sedan @300 HP, and you could sell some cars. Especially with a manual option and/or RWD. |
