I know Mazda choses not to compete and lives in their own little world. The great handling/lighter weight of their cars has always been an equalizer against cars with much greater HP, but now, Nissan has a car that has a lot more power and has stepped up the handling up to the point where is is equal to if not greater then the mazda. Now, if you absolutely have to have 4 seats and the space, the choice is easy, but if you don't, now the 2 seat Nissan comes into play more than before for people shopping for an affordable sports car. And of course the styling is still subject to personal opinion.

I would do the same , I am waiting to see what Mazda does with the RX-9. If there is no news by the end of 2010, then I will keep my RX-8 and probally buy 1 of the 3 cars on my most wanted list. '07 Z-06, 370Z or a Porsche Cayman S.
And I am sure Nissan will revise the 370 with more hp,more toys and probally a better suspension by 2011. Nissan is notorious for there 2-3 year cycle refresh.

This thread topic is perfectly fine. It can give prospective owners some important side-by-side information. If you don't like the thread topic, maybe you can go somewhere else.
This kind of topic increases forum activity, which is what is needed in this forum, not the meaningless small talk that kills forum activity by minds that have run out of ideas and amount to nothing more than a couple of bored oldtimers trying to feel good about themselves by eating crotch cheese out of each other's crotch.

Mazda has also always had cars that weren't as powerful as the competition. This still hasn't changed. When Nissan had the 300ZX-TT, it had 300 hp and the FD RX-7 had 255 HP. Toyota had a 300 hp Supra at this time too. Everyone complained back then that Mazda was underpowered. The trend goes back much farther than that.
Here's some pure and simple good advice. If you need to justify one car's performance, whatever the brand, make or model, to another car's performance, just go ahead and buy that other car!

People have the right to say whats on there mind, good or bad. And your insults are uncalled for.

As far as the interior of the 370z goes, I think it looks comical with all the weird circles around the shifter and steering wheel and the hilarious vertical center console that came right off an Infiniti SUV.
Aside from that, if you're thinking about the 370z or the 2009 RX8, I think at this time you can't pass up the 370z. I wouldn't even wait for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Supras had 327HP back then.
Fast forward today , like you mention Mazda rotaries have always been the low baller in the HP department, yet when driven correctly they could hold there own against cars with 50-75HP more.

Ugh. Using the title "370Z vs. RX8" just shouldnt be used as part of any title, ever. Maybe, "From your experience from driving both, how would you compare the 370Z and the R3?"
Using the "vs." just makes it look like a competition and lets face it, you dont have to drive a new Z to know it owns the 8 in every performace aspect, cosmetics and ride is subjective.

This sums up the frustration pretty much...ignoring the fact that Rx8 is a 4 door of course.

Now that Nissan has the 370, which now surpases the 8 in pretty much every aspect of performance, including handling...don't forget it is now around $40k in price too, putting it out of reach for many who might be interested. A similarly equipped 8 can be easily had for 5-7K less. Price is something nobody seems to mention when comparing the 2, but the z is a good chunk more.

I think the 370z is the ugliest thing with wheels. The look is horrible. Once the 16x engine and the new rx8 comes out and finalizes. Nissan would have to retire. 1.6L rotary!! 800cc each rotor! I have a feeling it will rape it since the 08 350z stock vs an 08 rx8 stock only beats us by half a car on the track and thats thanks to 70 more hp than us. Still embarrassing. If we had those hp we would own it.

Give me a break..
Do you think a 370Z "prospective owner" is going to come to an RX-8 FORUM to read this rubbish, no more than and RX-8 owner is going to post in a 370Z forum.
Yes, I agree this forum needs information, I guess it all depends on the information one has to offer..
This thread..zip.

I will honestly consider the 370z..., if it wasn't so ugly. Seriously now Nissan. What the **** were they thinking? I only hope the Nismo guys do something about it.
But yea, from a purely performance standpoint, the 370z will walk all over the RX-8. The question remains, can you drive? Because all the performance in the world is worthless if you can't drive.
At the same time, the RX-8 is more in the spirit of a GT car than a sports car. A cruiser, which it does very well, being so smooth and relatively spacious. Think Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano rather than F430 Scuderia.

well they could look at both cars since people cross shopped the 350z and RX8 all the time.
And the last 350z with the HR motor was faster by a lot than the RX8, not just half a car.
RX8 1/4 ~ 14.7
350z (HR motor) 1/4 ~ 13.8
thats almost a second

Yup. #70 just did it for GT. Donohue broke the track record for DP.

"In GT, Sylvain Tremblay captured the Rolex 24 pole for the second consecutive year in dramatic fashion, waiting until near the end of the session to turn a track record lap of 1:49.455 (117.100 mph) in the No. 70 SpeedSource Castrol Syntec Mazda RX."
