I can't attest to the Miata and Lotus (and the Miata costs less than the RX-8 anyway, doesn't it?).
And beat out in what? The GT-R is one mean machine from the factory.. the new model year even beat out the Corvette (ZR1 I believe?) in every category (track times, 0-60, braking distance etc.) so I'm not sure what you mean. The 8 is most likely more nimble with 800 less pounds of weight, but I think the GT-R would beat it on a track just due to sheer speed. Check out the specs, they're pretty impressive. It's also got an $80,00+ price tag. :P

Regardless, it's not fair to bring down either car. The GT-R is on a higher performance level (and much higher price tag), and the RX-8 is superb in its very own right, as well.

We all know - and agree - that the RX-8 is the best driver car out there. Cant find anything close in performance, looks and grins for under - approx - 50k.
But - say you had an extra 35 k to spend - you own the 8 - and you want to get another Drivers car. What would you get ? Just curious and want to hear opinion of other car freaks. Used car and what ? New ? hmmm.....

From my understanding, I think the OP was stating to keep the 8, and adding the next best option for no more than $35k. I'm also thinking that he left both the new or used options open for us to choose from.
Correct me if I've mistaken, OP.

Oh man...
1) Used E46 m3; for 35k, you might be able to find one with some Dinan parts.
-Good handling, and enough torque and HP to.. do something, ****.
2) Infiniti g35 coupe
-These and Supras are my favorite cars out there.. the engines can take so much abuse and the cars themselves are just so well rounded, and they sound like Thor himself is angry.
3) Supra
-If you can afford that ****. Do it. Nothing like a finely tuned 3 liter car producing over 1000hp

My second choice to own. My first choice is an rx7.
I'd put 15 grand into turboing and modifying the 8 then 20 grand for either a New Ford Focus, Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, Chevy Cruze and use that as a daily driver/winter car and make the 8 into the car it should've been in the first place. Why get something that would compete performance wise with the 8.
