My son just got a 90 300zx 2 seater. He has had it for 2 weeks now. Sorry no advice yet.

Jedi54 01-10-2008 01:16 PM

never had one but was ALWAYS a big fan.
only 55,000 miles??? Clean title? How much are they asking for it?

I had a 300ZX Z30(I think or 31) - 1986; thing was fun.

I say get it i had the pleasure of driving my uncles for about a year while he was on leave it was a twin turbo and the power was just insane on that car no major issues handles great(not as great as the rx8) but never the less its a great car wish i still had it

rglbegl 01-10-2008 01:41 PM

Had a 1992 NA with over 225000 miles when I bought it. I only owned it for about 6 months. Ran great, super fun to drive, just a little heavy. I would say 'underpowered', but on this forum . . .not too many people worry about power.

They did have a tendency to juice head gaskets if you ran them hot. But then again, any car running hot will destroy something sooner or later.

The VG engine line was not as good as the new VQ's, nor did they rev as high, but with proper maintenance you can keep them running for a long long time.

I say if the price is decent . . go for it!

A friend of mine had one, great car lots of fun. had a few issues with it that he worked on himself, the only negative he said was that the engine was hard to work on (big motor small space.) overall great car and i konw there are forums for the 300zx.

GL with the decision...

I hired one of the first 300 ZX's for our honeymoon in 1986. We were having a hoot until I was clocked for speeding on the highway!

Bottom line....these days I think they are a fun car....

Engines are a big pain to work on.

nu2rx8 01-10-2008 07:53 PM

Nice! The 90's Z remains a guilty pleasure of mine...always wanted a 2+2 but they seemed hard to find. I almost bought an na 2 seater, but it was a liitle too worn for my tastes. If it's clean go for it!

gr8thandling 01-10-2008 08:00 PM

had a 90 na around 165000 miles for a year then sold it to a friend. never had any problems with it. i now have a 95 convertible na. i really like the handling of my 95 cuz it feels a lot lighter than my old 90. don't know how the 2+2 drive but i think there's not much diff.

playdoh43 01-10-2008 09:01 PM

I think its a great car, but personally If I am going to get a used 300ZX, id only go twin turbo

Yep, and I'm not a big fan of what happens to the roofline on the 2+2 model. I don't think the 2+2's are half as popular, which explains the good price for a car that is thats in good condition

I had a 82' 280ZX Turbo and a 94' TT. I also had a slew of Maxima's. Great cars, no major problems.

Cody Red 01-10-2008 10:48 PM

if it's mint it should be well taken-care of. my cousin recently scored an na z32. it's got a couple problems, but it was sitting for half a year. we've been fixing it up and it drives great from what i think.

Razz1 01-10-2008 11:13 PM

I like the 300Z

m477 01-11-2008 03:26 AM

I think it is amazing how good they still look considering the design is 20 years old now! (the first ones arrived in dealers in 1989)

Anyway, a while back I was trying to find a 2+2 for a daily driver when I still had my RX-7. (all 2+2's are non-turbo btw) Keep in mind that this is definitely a large, heavy GT car. But for a daily driver I think it is very good, I would have bought one but couldn't find a clean one at the time...

Beeotch 01-11-2008 09:27 AM

my dad had a 50th year anniversary 300zx turbo, at the time he bought it for 30 something thousand. That was a lot of money in 1984. I saw him crying when he sold it (had us kids so needed a van).

My understanding is that that engine is a superior design to the line that became today's VQ. Due to cost, Nissan went to a simpler, cheaper design with some compromises, which is the VQ. I'm not sure what all those changes were but I read about them a long time ago.

termigni 01-11-2008 05:42 PM

I had a 85 300zx.. does that count?
