Red face 264ps MazdaSpeed Axela (3)!!

just got a mazda advertisement in the mail today showing the new Mazdaspeed Axela will be released here in Japan on the 22nd of June. and guess what? it has more horsepower and torque than the rx-8. to be precise, 264ps@5500rpm, 38.7kg/m@3000rpm. all from a 2300ccDOHC, 6spd man, 18" rims, etc..and it looks pretty tuff too. why couldn't the 8 have these figures straight from the factory? well i guess if you ordered all the goodies from Mazdaspeed for it you would get close if not better. but the price would be outta this world!

HP and TQ don't always matter. Gearing, weight, and ACTUAL HP and TQ matter. Any ETs?

mazda detuned the motor (look at the higher power in the MPS6... same motor) by adding a more restictive ehuast on it. same with the CX-7... exhuast + up boost = fun .

Which Mazdaspeed mods can you add to the 8 to gain more significant power?

I've been wondering about this. Was that all they did or are they running lower boost as well?

CX-7 has a different turbo than the MS6, and it is also detuned to accept 91 octane gas

Mazdaspeed isnt a detuned engine, its same as MS6 but with a restritive exhaust or maybe intake it isnt making as much as MS6.... also just by adding and intake in the MS6 can get u 10++ hp, and exhaust would probably be more too... So MS3 might end up with close to 300 crank hp and 300 lb/ft torque AT THE WHEELS with an intake and catback

dont exactly know what PSI the mps6 and mps3 will run but im sure that the CX-7 runs 15.6PSI stock. gotta find out... but im sure they put a mre restrictive exhuast to detune it. thats mazda's trick for all their cars.

That's a good question... I suspect that the MS3 is running the same turbo, but less boost than the MS6. I dunno about intake and exhaust though. Either way this car will have some potential... if the aftermarket ever gets off their *** and invests some time and money in Mazda cars.

One thing though... the numbers from Mazda say something like 0-60 in 6.0sec, but the VW GTI can do the same with DSG (weighs more) and only 200hp (about 220hp unofficially). Something looks odd here...

Hey Japan8, for the aftermarket gains I was just referring to the posts on the mazdaspeed6 board. They have nice gains from intake and exhaust.

A correction to my previous post... didnt see the 264ps for the MS3, so if it is running the same turbo it should be less boost then. Maybe it can run on 91 octane just like the CX-7. The speed6 only likes 93+ octane.

I think this car will crack the 6.0 secods for sure if GTI can do it

I could swear that in a flyer I got from Mazda or ad somewhere for the MS3 that it said it does 0-60 in 6.0sec. NO matter... 0-60 in 6.0sec is ok, but I expected better times with the power that it's supposed to put out...

6.0 secs advertised, probably faster, they underrated the MS6 too. I dont rmb the exact 0-60 for the MS6, but the actual was a lot faster. I rmb ppl arguing on here that the RX-8 is as fast as the MS6, but they were arguing advertised numbers.

Big turnaround from the overratting of the RX8 haha

Just conservative ratings. Like when the MS6 was rated from factory with a 6.6s 0-60 and everyone bitched about it being slow but actual tests showed 5.4-5.5s. It will be quicker than 6s to 60.
