I have an 08 Miata, PRHT. Love it, its like an 8 but smaller and lighter. A little slower, but overall it is almost a lateral move going from the 8 to the MX-5.

They are completely different cars that compare favorably to each other. Both great handlers, both look good, both are RWD, lightweight and fun to drive. Mazda has always had a knack for balancing the cars brakes, suspension and power and it is the same story with the MX-5.

Only thing I miss about the 8 is the rotary. I would go out an test drive one and see if you like it.

I'll always love the 1st gen the most, I'm just not a fan of the new bodystyle... hopefully I'll have another one sometime in the next few years

 

how could anybody not love the simplicity and pure fun per $ that is unmatched in the MX5
