This is stretching it, but just posting this for what it's worth:

Paul.
I scratch my head about that also. Never could figure out the marketers.

Here's one where a 2.0T GenCoupe gets killed by a Kia Optima in a drag race.

I went to check it out today, it's been attracting A LOT of attention since it arrived at the dealership. (They've put it in the show-room to deter the test-pilots)

Initial thoughts were positive. Looks very nice in person (side and rear mostly. The front still doesn't do the car much justice as it looks somewhat like the new Elantra except much more aggressive.

The interior is actually quite nice. I prefer it to G35 for sure, but haven't been inside of a G37 so I can't comment on that. The head-unit reminded me of the RX8's though except it's finished in silver. Not exactly a plus, but not terrible either.

The car certainly didn't give me the feeling the RX8 gives me just from sitting in it (I know that really doesn't say much to a lot of people, but thats EXACTLY where you spend 100% of your time driving it, so having something that just FEELS RIGHT is huge to me.)

I WOULD like to have one in White or Red though and throw my gold rims on it *drools*

Apparently the HKS Genesis Coupe is running:
19x9 (+35) w/ 235's
19x10 (+35) w/ 265's (unsure of the sidewalls on both, but it would seem 35/30 would make sense?)

Whereas i'm running:
18x8.5 (+35) with 235/40's
18x9.5 (+35) with 265/35's

Damn, wouldn't even have to buy rims for one! lol

Stretching it? LOL not even relevant! The G37 is in a different market segment. Street racing as an example is FAIL!

Oh yeah, different market segment is obvious, but I thought you were referring to performance?

From what I know, there are no drag strips in Korea, so they do it in closed-off road sections. The police come to watch.

Inside line quote : "Hyundai says the Genesis coupe with V6 will sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 149 mph.

The Korean automaker has not yet revealed pricing on the Genesis coupe but said it will be aimed at the Infiniti G37 coupe, which lists for $35,215. "

G37 Comparison http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...s-coupeg3.html

No it's not an Infinity...but that doesn't mean they are out trolling for potential G37 customers. There's a good chunk of change between the two left to mod the Hyundai if you need the last bit of performance.

My comment is based on what tibyABv6 wrote:

genesis is in the same class and direct competition to Infinity G37

As I said before, regardless of performance, they are not in the same market segment.

Initially they were saying that this was direct competition for the Mustang, now all the talk has shifted to G37 which it resembles in some ways.

Heres the link to the car and driver review. Must say I'm pretty impressed with what they had to say about the car, I think its pretty clear that this isn't the same Hyundai that we all knew a decade ago, which is a very good thing IMHO.

Sounds nice, but design wise, it's not my cup of tea. Looks kinda plain to me =(. Maybe I'll feel differently when I actually see one. In the mean time, when I look at the doors, I'm thinking......tiburon.....blehhhhh

Sometimes I just wish Mazda would drop the 2.5l Turbo from the new 2010 MS3 in an RX-8 chassis, solve these competitive car issues immediately, and be done with it - call it an MX-8 and continue the rotary version (as a niche car for those willing to wait the 10 year development cycle out) too.

How could that be so difficult for them...? seems like a no-brainer ... left behind by a Hyundai at the strip is sacrilage to say the least.

Wouldn't be that terrible of an idea, putting it in a car actually capable of handling it's power unrestrained. A lot of torque in that motor...

Except you'd have differenct balance and handling at a higher weight. Would it even fit? That would be a pretty mean car, though.

Yup, I think dark grey is its most flattering color too.

More G37 vs Genesis Coupe Comparison. Inside Line asks "Is it a real competitor?" ...

"That's what we pondered as we drove both cars for two weeks. We slid them around wet roads, spun dyno rollers and sliced through slalom cones — we even squeezed into their cramped backseats.

And the "winner" is ....???? !!!!

In terms of performance, it looks like the 370Z trounces the V6 version of this car.
I wonder if the $5000 or so differential invested in mods would bring it up to parity.

awesome read spin.

But being lightweight didn't help the Genesis coupe accelerate as quickly as we had hoped. The Genesis hit 60 mph from a standstill in 6.4 seconds (6.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip) and went through the traps at the quarter-mile mark in 14.5 seconds at 97.9 mph. That's considerably slower than the G37's 5.7-second run to 60 mph (5.4 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip) and its quarter-mile performance of 13.9 seconds at 101.4 mph.

oh and

Accelerating the Genesis quickly can be tricky because of a drivetrain protection feature built into its engine calibration. Shift the Genesis coupe aggressively at redline and you'll occasionally experience a power cut in your target gear which lasts 3 seconds.

The problem is exacerbated by the car's tachometer, which doesn't keep up with the engine speed in the first few gears, so it's too easy to run the engine to its 6,800-rpm maximum speed (redline is 6,500 rpm). Hyundai says the drivetrain protection is triggered at 6,800 rpm, but once it intervened, we experienced a power reduction in the next gear at much lower engine speeds. Run this V6 to the rev limiter in any given gear and it will hang there comfortably. But if you shift hard and quickly at the indicated redline, you'll occasionally be punished with that cut in power.

Hyundai is considering a new calibration, but there are cars going on sale that incorporate this 3-second power intervention, a feature that can punish drivers at engine speeds well below redline. Some people won't notice it, but to others it could be a deal breaker in the purchase of a Genesis 3.8 coupe
