Those truly were the good old days. I was watching an old Monaco race w/Senna in the Turbo McClaren....zeeesssh, just watching him fly around that place...one hand on the wheel and the other on the shifter....brilliance. I'm a big F-1 nut too, and I can appreciate all the advances and all, but I think the guys back in the day had bigger "attachments" than they do now. That being said, this is going to be a hell of a season. I think Renault is sand bagging a little, but I really don't see them being in the hunt for the title....tell you the truth, they haven't looked all that hot since the end of 06!! I think Renault started going down hill when they lost the use of the mass damper system they were running. Prior to that, they were the class of the field when it came down to the chasis. I'm also hoping BMW will get a few more podiums...if not a win. I hate how they did JV...but that's another story. OH, and I can't see Schumacher coming back......now could I see him as a fill in for Filipe or Kimi...sure, I could see him as the 3rd driver...but that's about it. And poor poor Fisi....I've always thought of him as one of the best out there, but damn....I think the writing is on the wall for Fisi....he's going to have to do some pretty fancy driving in that POS if he want's to stay on the grid for next year. And speaking of staying on the grid...poor Bordeaux (sp)...he made the switch to F-1 at the right time...lets hope he impresses...or else we may see him dicing w/Danaca next year :-/

US GP to return in 2009?
Talks in progress
http://formula-1.updatesport.com/new...2009/view.html
Mar.7 (GMM) Talks between the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and Bernie Ecclestone to resurrect the US grand prix may NOW have begun.
Tony George, the famous Indy 500 venue\'s chief, told an audience at the IU business conference in Indiana this week that he is pursuing options to patch up the relationship with the F1 chief executive in time for the Speedway\'s centennial celebrations in 2009.
The American broadcaster Speed TV also revealed that Just Marketing, a local company, has been hired by the IMS to help find a formula one title sponsor.
Just Marketing president Zak Brown said George and Ecclestone have a "strong interest" in reuniting as soon as possible.
"If the right sponsors can be put into place, I think this can happen in 2009," he added, insisting that the interest from lucrative potential race sponsors is already "fairly high".

The lack of driver aids didn't seem to bother Kimi at all. Alonso looked pretty smooth as well. Its too bad the Renault doesn't have what it takes to win races right now. How about those Red Bulls! Maybe there is something to the shark fin.

They'll get the cars dialed in and some more rubber laid down and it'll be business as usual this weekend. It'll be interesting to see how stable these guys stay when the heat is on and they are really racing. When you are running 2 wide at 180mph into a right hander there really isn't any room for sliding the car onto the grasscrete.
I can't wait. This is going to be good.

Just what is going on with Piquet? Seriously, even on high fuel he shouldn't have been 19th. I'll have to see Saturday practice as well and see if he has improved. This is making it very hard to choose my fantasy team. Maybe we should make a league....
edit: I just saw that he only did 14 laps that session because of a gearbox problem in the previous session.

Well, qualifying is over. Time to discuss.
Problems at Ferrari: Is it just this course? Or maybe their car is faster over a race distance. I'm probably wrong but I think I saw Massa do his flying lap in Q3 on hard tires. Does the Ferrari have serious graining issues on the softs? Also, you would think Ferrari wouldn't have a problem like fuel pressure. Didn't they have this same problem last year once?
BMW: Guess they're the real deal. I kept believing that Heidfeld was faster than Kubica despite the testing times because who knows what fuel levels they're running. I guess he schooled me.
Battle for fourth fastest team: who is truly faster, Williams or Toyota? I guess my suspicions were right about Nakajima, but I wanted to believe in him. I also think Glock will give away positions in the race.
Vettel: I KNEW I should have put him on my fantasy team
Renault: WTF? 12th for Alonso? To think that they're competing against Honda now.... Also, who is their back-up driver? Piquet may have to sit some future ones out. Why does he suck so much?
Bourdais: I hope he doesn't turn into the Wurz of the Toro Rosso team.
Super Aguri: As expected.

Some other things I found interesting.
Here is the report from Ferrari and why Kimi had problems during Qualifying. http://formula-1.updatesport.com/new...rari/view.html
Timo Glock gets a double grid penalty. http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2008/...-grid-penalty/

I think it's bound to happen as long as BMW doesn't fight for him. I'm not too sure about this either, but doesn't Nicolaus Todt run Toro Rosso? Since his father runs Ferrari, a jump from TR to Ferrari isn't hard to imagine.

The race was great. Very smooth win. He (The winner) said he could have gone faster. He behaved like a champion, hugging the third placed finisher, his old buddy. That's all I'll say for now.
