the light on the steering wheel is either red or green, red indicating that the rig is still connected and the driver should not 'go', green indicates 'go'

 

Thanks for the link alfy, but I found a stream and watched the race in spanish. I didn't see anything about Massa's steering wheel light or why he left early. The light on the lolipop definitely turned green for a second before turning back to red though. I'm starting to feel really bad for Raikkonen. Man, that's the second time a certain team has lucked out with the safety cars....

 

I was watching the DVR version as the race was being broadcast. I was skipping commercials and was all most caught up to the live version as my recording suddenly ended. I switched over to the live broadcast just to see the final interview. I guess I'll have to record the late night version to see what I missed. I have now set the DVR to record an extra 30 min to every F1 race.
Wasn't this a timed event that should have ended early instead of letting it run the full amount of laps? Do you think they will go back and make the final result like 10 laps earlier?

Regardless of what happened to Ferrari in the pits, the SC handed the race win to Alonso due to his pitting a few laps before the wreck.

The best Massa could have hoped for was 3rd, maybe 2nd if his team didn't screw him over.

 

And Piquet knew at what lap Alonso would pit and had directives to crash his car to give Alonso an edge with the safety car. The plot sickens...

And no I am just kidding.

 

How long did the race last? Was it more than the 2 hours limit? I remember the commentators saying that if there are no more safety cars now the race will finish in less than 2 hours. However another safety car came out but I was all jumpy from excitement that I don't know if it pushed past the 2 hour limit.

 

as much that i do not really care for alonso (use to be a big fan of him back in the days especially when he was renault when the car was mostly light blue and yellow), i seriously doubt tah t piquet had orders to crash his car. i know taht piquet job is on the line, and maybe him crashing his car on purpose gives him a better chance, and if not a seat for next year. but i really don't think we need to get into the conspiracy theories. i think we should just be happy with alonso win.

We have ours set to record an extra hour, just to be on the safe side. We made sure to correct that problem after one of the races in 2006 ran long and we missed the ending.....

I am no Alonso fan either but he was a stunning driver in Singapore. The speed he managed to get in that inferior Renault was amazing. I felt so sorry for him when the fuel pump gave out. I was actually, for once, cheering for Alonso when he won, because in my opinion he deserved to be among the front runners in this race.

The bad luck from the fuel pump canceled out by the good luck with the safety car.

 

lol me to. i felt bad for him duing qualify. but very glad he won a race this year.

 

I haven't been a fan of some of the penalties this year but I am definitely a fan of the three way fight for first place in the driver's championship and seeing teams like STR , BMW, and Renault win some races. It makes it more exciting to watch than a Mclaren/Ferrari parade.

Formula One fans have been urged to make their voice heard in what looks set to be the biggest ever poll of Grand Prix racing followers.

The new ING and F1 Racing Global Fan Survey has just gone live and Renault's title sponsor are hoping that the findings will help key figures inside F1 get a better understanding of what they can do to make the sport better for fans.

Isabelle Conner, the director of F1 sponsorship for ING, explained: "The reason ING joined F1 as a key sponsor was because of the passion millions of F1 fans around the world feel for the sport. The ING F1 Racing survey gives all fans, no matter if you go to the Grand Prix, or just watch the occasional race, the chance to make your voice heard.

"The survey will give the race organisers, sponsors and teams a real insight into what fans think. Not just what they love about the sport, but areas they feel could be improved."

Conner especially wants fans new to the sport to voice their views on F1 - especially those from countries where the sport is venturing for the first time.

"F1 as a sport is increasingly moving eastwards, and we really want to hear from fans in those countries new to F1," she said. "Did Singaporeans think the night race was a success? Are Koreans looking forward to their race in 2010? This is a real chance for new fans to voice their opinions as well."

"ING tries to make financial services easier for our customers, and we try and follow this through in everything we do - especially in our F1 sponsorship. The survey is quick and simple to fill in, and we will release the results in December."

^^Well thats a kick in the nuts. I've gone a few times and had a great time. I wonder what the reasoning is.

WTF! I was finally planning on going next year too....

 

The quality of the tarmac was horrible already in 2007. The fact that they did nothing to improve it for 2008 probably upset quite a few people and hence they lost it, and rightfully so.

However, I do hope Montreal gets a chance to fix the track properly and regain its place on the calender.

 

It wasn't the quality of the track that caused them to loose the race. The promoter of the race, didn't want to pay what F1 requires to put it on. F1 priced itself out of Canada. Just like they have out of the U.S.
In all the other countries, the government provides heavy subsidies to put on the race.

 

I started watching F1 when I was in high school, back in 2002. This season has been the most exciting I've seen in my opinion, with a good variety of winning teams and drivers. My parents are from Poland but I was born in the U.S., so I naturally cheer for Kubica and enjoy seeing BMW do well. I started cheering for Toyota back in 2002 (they were the reason I started watching F1). But they've obviously been a real disappointment.

Looking forward to this weekend's race, glad that the standings are still close.
And it's cool to see that a lot of the members here are into F1, although that isn't really surprising given the nature of the RX-8...

 

Do you have any link where this is stated? Last I read about it there was speculations about the quality of the track that had caused it.

If you read through the following articles, you will find it is all about money. They were willing and ready to repave the track, so that wasn't an issue.
