As F1 fans, and many within the paddock, still lament the fact that F1 now features 2.4 litre V8 powerplants, with V12s, V10s, Flat-12s, H16s, Turbo V6s and so many other emotive configurations consigned to history, FIA President Max Mosley has admitted that he would be happy to see all teams use a standard engine.
Such a move would send shockwaves throughout the sport, but while many will dismiss such talk as the FIA President merely thinking aloud, others know that Mosley usually gets what he wants.
Talking to L'Equipe, he said: "I know that the big constructors will say to me that 'if there is to be a single engine, I want it to be mine', but in the real world, if a racing company can buy a cheaper engine then it will do so... without doubt."
While, in the eyes of many, aerodynamics are one of the major deciding factors in contemporary F1, it is the competition between the engine manufacturers which has helped shape the sport almost since its inception. While Mosley has gradually standardised much of F1, in the eyes of many, slowly turning it into a one-make formula, the concept of all teams using the same engine is surely unthinkable.
Remarkably, while Mosley is in favour of standard engines, following on from the introduction of a standard engine ECU and a move towards standard aerodynamics, he disagrees with Flavio Briatore, who has suggested that there should be a standard KERS device when the system is introduced next year.
"This shows the inability of team owners to think logically", said Mosley." Only when the KERS system has been extensively tested can we think about a common usage."

Having made his case to the FIA Court of Appeal today, Lewis Hamilton has left for Singapore awaiting tomorrow's decision on whether his 25-second penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix will be overturned.

Hamilton appeared in front of the appeal judges in Paris when typically a driver will just provide a written statement.

"I just hope the judges see the truth," Hamilton said as he left the court. "I'm a racing driver and that's what I do. The day was long and intense and I told them what was on my mind because in that position you can be talked down to."

Hamilton clashed with a Ferrari lawyer during the proceedings when being cross-examined blasting, "Are you a racing driver? No! I've been a racing driver since I was eight, and I know pretty much every single move in the book, and that's why I'm the best at my job."

What an arrogant response.

 

Yet another reason that I hope that he never wins a championship. I wish he had come into F1 with Toyota, or Honda. Just a team that would make him appreciate having a good car, because frankly with McLaren he has not had to struggle with an underperforming car a la Fernando Alonso.

 

It really depends on how you wish to interpret that statement: All of the F1 drivers can be considered "The best at their jobs" compared to drivers in other series and the best of the F1 drivers all consider themselves to be THE best. You don't pilot craft like that without EXTREME self belief. I say congrats to him for standing up to a high powered lawyer like that.

question, how is that an arrogant response? what would you have done, if someone was blasting you on something that you are really good at? especially seeing him start at 15th on the grid to and finished 7th place last race. this is why hamilton dominated GP2, the guy one of the best drivers i have seen since arton (yes i said it, and im prepared to be flamed lol ) .



also i dont understand why ppl keep saying hamilton should of drove for toyota etc and not mclaren . i guess these ppl who say this, never watched him in GP2 where he dominated the series. its only logical the best drivers drive the best cars. its not really his fault that mclaren asked him to join their team when he got done with gp2.

 

Its not arrogance. It comes from extreme self-confidence, something that is mandatory to drive an F1 car.

If that is lacking, you can do what Kimi does and have a few cocktails to buoy your confidence before getting in the car. How else do you explain his slow starts and blinding speed at the end of the race. Did his car get better all of a sudden. NO. The adrenaline was finally overcoming the effects of the alcohol.

Those of you who have seen race drivers under the influence know what I am talking about. For the rest, let the flames begin.

If Massa wins the championship, it had better be by 8 or more points. Otherwise millions of fans will believe it to be undeserved, and i'll be one of them.

 

When he says "the best at my job," I'm assuming his job as an F1 driver. Not as a driver period. Of course drivers need a lot of confidence, but there's a difference between confidence and arrogance. This is arrogance. That doesn't mean he isn't a fast driver though, he clearly is. I'd say he's definitely top 5.

morkusyambo: I think Kimi's drinking problem started when he was at McLaren. They could never give him a car to finish the race.

I would more call it anger rather than arrogance. Or even arrogance brought forth by anger. Lets face it, if we get angry things come out a bit rawer and harsher than we often mean.

That is what is so hard about being in the spotlight by media all the time. A slip and its all over the place to be criticized as arrogant etc.

Yeah, I saw her. She was so hot, one of the announcers started gushing, then realized he was still live and shutup.

 

i agreee. plus the night of practice, the announcers said that hamilton got pretty bashed by the ferrari lawyers. which i can only guess why hamilton lashed back at them. i dont blame him either, no one likes to be hounded on.

 

Oh ya, I was waiting for a, 'How you dooin'' from Bob Varsha but I think the sheer hotness smacked him straight.

Anyone catch how badly the cars were porpoising during Friday's practice. It looked like old CART at Cleveland or Vancouver. I haven't seen F1 cars look that rough to drive in a long time.

So far this GP has been a neat spectacle but I expect attrition will be high tomorrow.

 

Speaking of rough things. Damn i feel sorry for Alonso. He really had the speed in his renault for once in this season and in Q2 the car fails him.

Oh well, it will be interesting to see him start from 15th. However it doesn't seem to be a track where you can pass people. Less than one hour to start now. I can barely wait :-)

 

just wow. not going to say what happenend till later. but some thing happens in the race that makes you wonder, if the signs shows everythign is ok, how can something cause so much trouble for a team. its hard to explain what happend with out spoiling it. all i have to say is, i seen the green light in the replay. now i am not sure what green light vs red light means.

really good race. i wont say who won. but ill say this, its some one who had it bad in qualify run.

Theres two lights one which is the big one over top the head of the dirver that is the substitute for the lolipop and then there's one on the steering wheel that indicates if the fuel rig is connected to the car or not, thats what they were talking about when they were comparing the two lights...

does the green or was blue mean its disconnected? i didnt get to hear what the announcers had to say when they showed the lights replay on massa car.
