2007 Rx-7...

From motortrend:
"2007 Mazda RX-7 : On the drawing board is a shortened, lighter coupe boasting 280-330 hp. However, it has not been greenlighted for production. "We can't just keep launching sports cars," says product development chief Joe Bakaj."

http://motortrend.com/future/spied/1...vf/index8.html

Not meaning to get anyone's hopes up, but I know how everyone loves to tell mazda what to do. It would be nice...but in my opinion unnecessary. Just boost the RX-8 with some more power. The only reason for having a RX-7 would be if it was a convertible with a turbo or supercharger.

Won't happen...as I said in another post Mazda have never re-birthed a discontinued export rotary and name...RX-7....

Under another name...???..nope...

They will continue with the 8 for at least another 4 years to make some money out of the line.

There could be a market for a cheap, I said CHEAP 2 seater, but that would hurt some MX-5 sales...

no im afraid not. but the folks that tell me these things arent in the habit of making things up and im not in the habit of posting things made up. im not saying it will ever see the light of day -there must be good reasons it was puled- just that folks saying its impossible because of the time frame should reconsider

Not only that, but keep in mind Chrysler. They put out the Viper in a super short time.

there will be something "exciting" to see at this years Detroit or New York auto show according to the folks from Mazda japan who were at 7stock. Also one of them(i forget which one-koby? eh ask rotarygod) mention that what he's really like to do is drop a renesis in an Elise. plus we have that car being shown at focus groups etc.

If the 2nd generation RX-8 is turbocharged nobody will care about the RX-7 coming back. Mazda has a sports car platform in the RX-8...they just need to put some hair on its huevos.

So you would be OK if they released an RX-7 that shared a platform, wheelbase, chassis, engine, etc with the RX-8? Die hard RX-7 fans would revolt.

It's a great platform. No debating it. Just wouldn't make sense to release another 2 door sport car on that platform...much less the highly anticipated 4th generation RX-7. The cultish following would tell Mazda to shove zoom-zoom-zoom where the sun don't shine. :fawk:

is not about what make sence is more about saving money. Mazda needs to compete with Nissan, they are the only one out there with a "true" sports car. RX-8 is not a true Sports car. Techanically is a sport seddan (according to my insurance company and registration)

That would actually be Yamaguchi-san, project manager for the RX-8 and 3rd gen Miata. He also admitted, although probably unintentionally, to be currently testing the auto transmission for the 2nd generation RX-8. Don't expect that for several more years though. Apparently he is the project manager for it too.

The Miata is a true sports car so yes Mazda has a true sports car. It is just smaller and less powerful. The RX-8 is considered a 4 door sports car. Of course no one knows what to classify it as. No one has ever seen a 4 door sports car before. To bring out an RX-7 now would mean 3 sports cars from the same manufacturer. That's unlikely although not impossible as Mazda does brag that every car they make has the soul of a sports car. I don't really care what an insurance company classifies it as. If they call it a sport sedan, it only makes your insurance premium cheaper so don't complain.
