Would be a fun change anyway.
I understand the reasoning for it... it's valid. I'd do that if I autocrossed. But I don't... so I wouldn't. Part of the charm of getting a Mustang is the V8.

You should lose some weight anyway with the hood change as it's FRP. The hood pins and vent should prove to be nice at speed... the GT500 had issues with pressure building up under the hood, thus the hood vents. Outside of the hood, front bumper and grill... there only other changes are stripes. Wheels... those are nice, but pricey... I'd look for other options first... and the stock 17's and 18's have to go... just look too damn small on the car.

The V8 does have one other advantage... greater capability for more power. Yeah... Shelby is getting like 350hp from it with the s/c (not twin-screw... eww!), but you can easily get 400hp from a stock 3v 4.6 V8 with the Saleen S/C, or 475hp from Kenne Bell. Plus there's whipple and Ford Racing is supposedly going to release a Whipple S/C too.

I agree about the GT500. Too heavy. Almost everyone in the Mustang community wants the 5.0 Cammer engine in a production car, but a crate motor is $15,000. I don't think Ford will be able to bring that out at a reasonable price. But... like Saleen did for another special car... why not bore-up the 3v 4.6 engine to 5.0L(according to the Mustang forums it's better on the 4.6 motor than stroker)? Add a s/c to that and Ford should have been able to hit the same horsepower mark with room to spare and certainly saved a lot of weight. Another option that I mentioned to bascho before was changing the 5.4L truck block to aluminum... this way the costs could be amortized across the big selling trucks and keep costs (and weight) down for the GT500. Oh well...

My bad... miss read that at first... silly like exceeding 400hp and still running rich silly. Yeah, I can imagine. This motor seems to love power... it's only limitation is the botton end (pistons, rods and crank). The 3v heads are reported to have great flow... better than the old 4v heads on the NA Cobras.

Dang straight. I meet him a couple years ago at Lagua Seca aka Mazda Race Way, very cool indeed. This is coming from a import guy .

Better yet, develop a next-gen pushrod motor to compete with the LS# and hemis. That way, you don't have to resort to a supercharger and a complicated design to make decent numbers. And since you're not blowing money on a shitload of extra moving parts, you can actually afford to build the thing out of aluminum as God intended.

Truthfully I complete agree, but the mucky mucks at Ford have the OHC MOD engines so far up their *** that they can't see the benefits to investing the money on a next gen pushrod motor.

OTOH... less displacement with FI is still less displacement... which SHOULD BE better gas mileage... important these days. 6.0L vs S/C 4.6L... And enough ricers on here already complain about the live axel (even though the racing results speak for themselves)... imagine what they'd say if it was still a pushrod motor!

Granted I'd love to have a 6.0L Ford V8 in the Mustang...
