2006 Mitsu Eclipse numbers from R&T
Not sure how you guys missed this in the Edmunds review:
That's somewhat impressive. Too bad on the skidpad it only manages 0.83g according to Road & Track though. But R&T only managed 64.1 in the slalom. Odd..
Overall I don't like the car's exterior, but I'll give it one thing: it does have a nice looking ***.
With 62 percent of its weight up front, the coupe never turns in with the eagerness of most competitors, but an average speed of 64.9 mph establishes the Mitsu as faster through the cones than the 350Z, the Mustang and the RX-8.
"Thanks to its short wheelbase and front-wheel drive, the Eclipse absolutely shines in the slalom," writes our editor in chief. "We could enter the slalom really hot and scrub off speed without spinning or losing control."

It depends on how R&T and C&D launched the car. They could have been sent "cherry's" as well, like ford did with the new GT mustang.
Edmunds, being less "mainstream", could have just gotten ahold of a normal production car.
Technically the Mazda 6s goes about 0-60 in 6.7 and pulls a quarter in 14.8...if you want to abuse the crap outta the clutch.

Edmunds can't drive is what it is... They pulled a 14.0 and a 14.1 with the 06 Stang and 05 STi.
I like the looks of the car, but heavy FWD, it will drive like ***. Meanwhile, the Evo drives great and looks like ***.
Can anyone give me a reason they didnt use the evo drivetrain on the eclipse?

This thing is ugly...too heavy, and FWD....case closed!
Tell me everyone, why the heck are cars getting FATTER and FATTER? For the love of GOD I just dont' understand how this thing weighs more than a Mustang GT & close if not equal to a GTO...(they have big V8's for petes sake)
Look, stick a small V8 making 350HP into a 3200 pound car and sell it for 20-25K and you wont be able to make enough of them to sell. As long as it looks sexy or tough and is up to or near Honda levels of quality you can't go wrong.
Who is running Mitsu???? The EVO and new big sadan is the only thing keeping them alive.

It's better than the previous generation speedwise, handling is about the same. Probably will cost about $22 to get the V6 GT considering it was easy to get a 2005 GT for around $20.
I don't see what the problem is, it's an improvement over the current model, aftermarket parts will be plentiful, and the V6 is dead reliable. Oh and the hatchback with the seats down will hold a ton of stuff.

Saw it in person at the Mitsu dealer yesterday.... it looks great. Even the front end is growing on me.
This car should sell well, and i won't laugh when I see them around like a do at the last-gen ones, so that's saying something.

Well I just watched Car and Driver TV on Spike and they did a quick review on the 2006 Eclipse. They said 0-60 in 6.1, 3600 lbs, and it is WIDER than a Ford Explorer.
Now for the best part. They said their 6 speed MT 6cyl car got 15 mpg on a 300 trip! Now lets see if the critics crucify this car for the gas mileage like they did the 8. I think the car has a catch look. At 3600 lbs and being 3 inches longer than the previous eclipse, this thing is a boat.

Friend of mine test drove an 06 Eclipse GT yesterday fully loaded. Called me up and spoke tp me about it afterwards for 10 minutes. According to him, when you're inside of it, it feels like you're sitting as high off the ground as a mid sized sedan. He also thought the acceleration felt a lot like the 350Z because of its large amount of torque that is instantly available at first, but by mid range you can clearly tell it doesn't have the speed of a 350Z. It suffered from torque steer because it's FWD. That's another thing he didn't like about it...the fact that it was FWD. Also told me the handling wasn't too impressive because the car had a shitty turning radius, though he said the ride was smooth and that the suspension felt more like a sedan than sports car. He also mentioned the exhaust note/sound of the car's engine was very pleasing to the ear.
As far as looks he thought the front of it was hideous like a regular econocar, the shift **** wasn't too good looking, and hated the stock rim selections. He agreed with me that the back of the car looked decent though, the interior was filled with a shitload of lights that looked nice when lit, and that it was much cleaner and more spacious than any of the older models.
His bottomline was that for the amount of money they're asking for it there's no reason not to spend the cash on a Mustang GT instead. To get a GT Eclipse with leather you have buy a package (just like with our RX-8s) which puts you at at least $27,000..meaning you're already in RX-8/350z territory. He doesn't think anyone shopping for a sports car is going to buy this over a 350Z or Mustang GT.
I think I'm going to go down to a dealership tomorrow instead of washing my car just to see what the interior is like. It's going to rain all week here anyway

I TRIED to take a test drive in the last generation Eclipse, but there wasn't enough headroom, regardless of how I positioned the seat. I'm only 6 feet tall, and when I questioned the salesperson, he admitted that it had a headroom problem. I never experienced that issue in ANY other car. Hope they have that worked out in the new one.
BTW, the new Toyota Avalon, with auto, goes 0-60 in six seconds flat, so don't challenge your grandma at the next traffic light.
