2006 Honda Civic Overview

www.vtec.net

For those with some love for Honda, here is the full rundown on the 2006 Civic and all its variants (Si, Coupe, Sedan and Hybrid) thanks to TOV.

In summary, I think the styling of the new civic is great, the coupe is definitly going to be a home run IMO. The interior is pretty incredible when you think about the price point. The civic will give the 3 a run for its money in this area now.

As far as power trains, the Mazda 3 edges out the civic, but it remains to be seen how powerful in the real world the new 1.8L is compared to the standard 2.0L in the 3, as Honda's iVtec engines have typically been underrated in terms of power.
the economy out of that 1.8L is pretty incredible, almost Hybrid numbers on the hwy. My friends civics can usually hit or exceed the EPA ratings, so I have no reason to think the 06 won't either.

the initial drivng impressions for the Si have been very positive, basically a better, sharper RSX with a LSD (thank god).

I imagine that the new civic will be quite a seller. I hope Mazda steps up with some new technology, a direction injection engine would be nice since I doubt mazda will offer a hybrid 3. The MS6 already has a direct injection 2.3L (granted its a turbo)

I don't think Honda could ever have trouble selling the civic. I'm really excited for this one though, seems very promising. Something I might consider in a few years as a daily driver.

Not really a fan of the looks. The design looks a awkward and pasted together. I'm sure it will sell though.

As a prior CRX owner (many years ago when I was in high school), I'm really interested in seeing the new CRX (I know it wasn't covered in the article) when it comes out. I can just imagine something as small as the original '84 CRX with the same ~200hp motor.

Honda and RWD... BAWHAHAHA... Honda is allergic to RWD. The S2000 and NSX is all they can come up with. FWD sucks.

The Civic has a 5 speed automatic, huge advantage over the mazda3's 4 speed autos.
Why there isn't a 6 speed manual at least offered on regular civic? honda stupidity and arrogance.

I agree. The gauge pod... WTF?! Honda yet again fails to build even one car that can interest me...

I've test-driven it before, and the ride was a little strange. The very low end is surprisingly powerful. For some reason there is a LOT of torque steer between shifts, even though the car doesn't accelerate very fast...

From this view I thought it was an Accord. And the side view mirrors are kinda huge.
