What's next? "Yaris vs. RX8?" Damn, the 8's getting dissed left and right! I think it's time for a video or something to shut all these damn Trolls up.
The 8's a damn fine sports car. The Civic's a well made commuter with some zip. C'mon, this is getting absurd.
And magazine/advertised times are not easily reproduced, even by the same driver with similar conditions. Much less with a different driver in different road conditions and tires, etc...people read way too much into advertised times, ratings, etc.
If the car feels fast enough for ya, what's the problem?

This should stir the pot. LOL. This is Edmunds tests for each car. The best test they did has 6.6 in 0 to 60 and 15.1 in 1/4 mile at 92.8mph. I realize these are only numbers, however, like it or not, the Civic, due to it's lighter weight, and slightly less WHP is almost or just as fast in a straight line. It can come down to the driver, it's close enough. However, who cares. One is an upgraded trim level of an economy car, the other is a unique and individually built sports coupe. The comparison ends right there. Performance isn't everything ya know.
2006 Civic SI
0 - 60 (sec): 6.8
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.2 @ 92.1
2005 RX8
0 - 60 (sec): 7.0
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.4 @ 92.7
2006 Civic SI
0 - 60 (sec): 6.8
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.2 @ 92.1
2005 RX8
0 - 60 (sec): 7.0
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.4 @ 92.7

^ congrats DJ, the award for quoting the slowest RX8 time that I've seen goes you, using that ever credible Edmunds. Good job. It's amusing that the non 8 owners always come up with these.
Reality...there has been over a dozen tests on both cars from the leading sources, and I'm sure the 8 has averaged a half sec. ahead in 0-60 and the 1/4, with slightly higher traps, not to mention higher top speeds by 15-20mph. Still a drivers race I'd say, but if it was the other way around we'd all be hearing more 8 pwnage stories.

Fun to talk about, too many variables to be conclusive, utterly pointless, and ultimately, everyone wins...

The Rx-8 definatly handles better, and I bet it will do better in autocross.
I've drive both cars, and both cars are super fun to drive.
Driving the civic is really fun and it feels like your going fast, but your really not. It's really fun
The SI doesnt pick up speed anywhere as near as a RX-8.
The RX-8 is all around better car, except the fact that its more reliable and get more gas, and doesnt burn oil.
But ignorning that fact
I would and did get a RX-8 any day over the SI

The 98+ Fbodys used the same engine as the vette.. which had 350... so did the other engines, they wern't "detuned". they dynoed the same RWHP as the vettes did
is it just me, or does the rx8 seem to be getting sloweer with every post
rx8 can go from 0-60 in 5.8
No it cant, the rx8 does it in low 6's
and it gradually goes up.. now it can do the 0-60 in 7 seconds... c'mon

Lets face it. 0 to 60 in 5.8 is an EXTREMELY generous time for the RX8. Low 6s is truly the accurate number here, which is pretty good, so why worry.

I found myself next to one last night and the RX-8 was far superior in terms of who could out-pull whom from 30+. It wasn't really even close.

Had he been in at the proper RPM and power range like you were, you probably would still edge him, but it would have been really close.

Perhaps I'm was just THAT better of a driver...but it wasnt as hard as you made it sound. But I'll give you that it was just one car and so one sample...if I find another one I'll let you know, but it was not very hard at all for me on three pulls...

you guys are getting really shitty rx-8's in the US if an si can keep up with you, my mechanic has an 07 si, so I have a lot of experience with it, my car pulls from it really hard 4 cars in the 1/4 to be precise, just as much as a slightly moded FD pulls from my rx-8
and if an SI can keep up with your s2000 there may be something wrong with your car

You have to understand some facts here. The Civic SI weighs less and puts out only about 10 less whp on average. The RX* says 232hp, the Civic says 197, but that is totally inaccurate. The magazine numbers aren't that far behind the RX8 AT ALL. The cars are close enough in straight line performance that it does come down to the driver. Example: If you were rolling at 20mph and the Civic was in perfect RPM (Vtec) to roll start, and you at 4000rpms, YOU ARE GONNA LOSE. Vice versa. In a perfect world, the RX8 will edge out the Civic every time. Like it or not that's how it works. I'm talking in a perfect world, car vs car, the Civic is right behind the RX8. Hate to tell ya, but that's how it is. The driver makes all the difference when cars are this close in power, and of course the RX8 handles better, looks nicer and is far better of a sports car, so just be happy.
