2 More RWD V8 Sports Cars May Be Coming to Market

It seems that Dodge and Hyundai (yes, Hyundai) might be bringing rwd coupes to market in the next few years. AutoWeek reported that many at Dodge would like to see a new Challenger based of the next LX platform to be built to compete with the Mustang for 2009 http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102549 .

Hyundai is planning to start building rwd cars in 2007 according to the latest issue of either MotorTrend or Road & Track, I can remember which. The article mentioned a possibility of a V8 coupe model and had an artist rendering of the possible car.

The kids who were never able to afford one are not retiring baby boomers with excess disposable income. Retro cars meant to appeal to that crowd. Didn't help the new T-Bird though........

that's b/c the new t-bird looked like crap :p...least that's what i thought .. hehe and i wasn't alone based on their horrible sales. it was a good thought though..least ford seemed to do a lill bit better with the new / retro mustang. least it looks better.

the t-bird had terrible acceleration and handling and no manual tranny. Nobody bought a t-bird that test drove any other roadster.

I am an aging baby boomer with disposable income. I looked at the T-Bird, agree with Army RX-8, and didn't bother to drive it.

Imagine if you're a car company and you have a nameplate with some heritage, e.g. T-bird, Charger, GTO, etc... You're about to release an all-new vehicle. Would you rather build on a built-in fan base and heritage? Or would you rather start from scratch? Most people would say that the former is the smarter move.

The Challenger name is retro, but I don't think the car will be a retro copy like the Mustang but rather just continue the boxy theme of the other Dodge/Chrysler rwd cars.

Challenger is an established name. The car was mediocre, and so was the name, that's why you never saw an Edsel 2.
