If this were to come to fruition, the economic consequences will be disasterous...it will make late '08 -'09 look like a walk in the park. Not that this would even be important anymore, but you can pretty much kiss all sports cars goodbye too.

Nope, it's absolutely not political. I think that it is, funny names aside, an economical fact.
One of the differences in gas prices is that you can actually count on a partial national production plus better taxation, we can't and must import energy from pretty much all over the world (see Russia etc).
The effects of war on gas prices and the economy are well documented, the above are the reasons why we are affected in a heavier way than you

I don't think that my position is relevant but it is good to note what other people think about a subject.
You can't really be open minded if your sources come all from the same place, right? Listening to them all and picking the one you like the most is the way to go! Otherwise it's just indoctrination =)
From an economy point of view this is also rather interesting since you are the ones trying to rule the economy (and failing at that given the changed world assets), we are the ones ruled by both you and the far east!

G strikes a particular note with me with a couple of his comments regarding opinions of others(outside of the US). It truly is interesting to be mixed in various cultures living overseas for many years. The rest of the world views America in a very different light than America views itself. Oddly it may be(?), I tend to see America the way foreigners do moreso than the way Americans do.
I won't expound further as it would require, at some, level political talk. And I have no desire to go there, nor get mod-slapped for it.

Octane is computed differently in Europe than it is in the US.
We use an average of research octane and motor octane (AKI).
Europe just uses the research number, which is usually 5 points higher than the R+M/2 method.
That's kinda why I chuckle when a European customer gloats and asks for a "special" tune for their "superior" gasoline.

Since the base refined oil is pretty much the same maybe it's just a matter of additives. What do you think?

Americans (at least tree huggers & some politicians & general populations) *think* that Ethanol is cleaner.
hoho~ I really wish the gas hits 5 bucks a gallon so I can at least stop seeing god damn woman driving those oversized Yukon XL alone.

if it is too high--then stop using it.
The only thing a company reacts too is the bottom line.
I grew up "poor" by these days standards. No running water, no phone, no central heat, no a/c (and I live in the south)....if you had too you would be surprised what you could do without.
