Just ordered a Velocity Red 4AT RX8 from a PI 2 weeks ago. Waiting for COE bidding. Can't wait to get my hands on it, but that's another story!

Was offered a 2-tone leather option and the salesman recommended a red/black leather combi (done by Jackspeed apparently) so I went along with that. Later when I went back home, I started to have 2nd thoughts. The red/black 2-tone leather looks really nice with Velocity Red but it does look a bit "bengish" or outlandish, very loud. May not go well with a yuppie executive image I am trying to project (I am 33 btw, not some young teenager ). Also, a car enthusiast friend says that it may look good initially, but after first year, will get tired of it.

So now, I am deciding between an all-black leather or black with red stitching.

The 3 options I am deciding between are:
1) Red/black (damn, it looks v good on the Mazda website)
2) All-black
3) Black with red stitching

Which would you recommend? Any pics of your interior to show (especially if yours is a Velocity Red as well?

there isn the 6AT yet... yes the americans are toking abt it... but the japanese dun have the faintest idea when it is gg to be in production......

Well mine is exactly that - Velo Red with Red/Black interior seats. Can't really say I chose it coz MM had told me they only had black interiors for the car when I test drove. But then turned out that mine was "special" and was two-toned inside. Oh what the heck, couldn't wait so I got it.

I'm not sure if you PI version is the same as the MM version. Well, there's this ribbed texture on the black areas so it's not the same as the all black chairs I've seen. If you want, I could take some pics.

As for whether it's a exec look, heh... i dunno.. I'm an exec :-) All I can say for sure is that you'll have people who love it and people who thinks it's over the top or plain yucks. Then again, 1/2 the people who see my car for the first time say "WHY RED?!?!" and the other 1/2 go "HOT CAR!!" (not sure if telling the truth. hahaha.) The two toned doors are nice though (my view of course) and matches the seats nicely. Just a matter of how much red you can deal with!!

Tink Red & Black is nice (not beng's) or black w/red stitching, if can have both = nice too.

 

since your leather will be done locally, why not choose a different colour - maybe go for light tan colour (something like Shinka version 1), or perforated leather like Jaguar XJR style!

 

There are more that just ribbed texture different from a STANDARD factory leather to a locally upholsted leather seats.

One would not get:
1. Side air-bag (some)
2. Electronic seat adjustment
3. Hard Backing

That's wat one would miss out with non-factory leather package. IMO, the hard backing makes the seat/interior looks even more outstanding.

Well, Kukumalu, would love to take a peek at your existing red/black interior if you have the time to take a pic and post it here.

Any brudders have a pic of black /w red stitching interior in a Velocity Red to show? Nothing beats seeing it yourself!

As to the query on why not a 6AT, well, it's not launched yet. Also, got my 4AT at quite a steal, sales agreement price is $96,988 but with bank and PI rebates, I am paying around 92K. Comes with 2-tone leather, reverse sensors, 6CD changer, "SunKool" (V-Kool equivalent), guaranteed COE (4 bids) - no top-up/no rebate. No sunroof, no electric seats, etc like in the 6MT sold by MM, but I don't need those, considering I am saving about 20K

Oh yes, one brudder suggested getting other colours. I have a car enthusiast fren (the same one that introed me to RX8 and made me gian) who suggested getting Ferrari Biege or Burgundy Napa leather (??). Err, but I think biege or brown tends to get dirty pretty easily?

Oops, missed M-ster reply on the benefits of factory-fitted leather seats. Tend to agree if the models brought in by MM are really factory-fitted. Someone (another car enthusiast fren) told me that some like to bring in bare car bodies and do local installation of interior?? Not sure if this is true.

 

I've had my car for two+ years now and still love the red/black leather interior. I would think you'd get tired of the all black interior after a while because it's plain and not the other way around. I'm 29 btw, so not a teenager either.
