Upgrading existing sound systems

Hi,

Need some help here. The stock sound system from MM sucks... i think i def need to upgrade the speakers and throw in a couple of amps. maybe soundproof the panels. but i am stopping short of woofers this time. boot space is really quite limited.

Can i ask if any of u guys upgraded yours? the factory headunit is very basic.... do i need to get a separate processor?

can i get any recommendations for good installers? i always go to Pin Liang, but i decided to make a switch this time cos they ALWAYS overcharge me. had it with them, but i cant deny the fact that they do a very clean job for the installation.

thanks to revert.

hi mivecboy, factory unit is ok lah , I think what u need is get a hi 2 lo convertor, install preamp and 1 or 2 power amp and change the speaker and add a sub that will do.

yeah... that's wat i thot.. need a pre-amp, 2 dedicated amps to drive the components at front and one for rear fill. still thinking if i need a woofer, dont wanna sacrifice boot space...maybe a tube.

any good installers to intro?

my current setup is 4 ch amp to amplify front component and rear, and 2ch to power 12in sub. my feel is my sub is too strong.... no need 12in for our car. 10in shld suffice. a bass tube is always a good alternative, however the bass is not as deep as boxed sub.

as for good installers, there are quite a few reputable ones. u wan to buy parts urself then install with others or buy n install in one place?

I guess it depends on two things, how much u wanna spend and how much amp u want (and woofer space "sacrifice" in the boot ). I also have a MM 8 and after a couple of months I replaced the extremely cheap stock speakers with a set of Polks...6.5" components in the front and three way 6x9's in the rear. The stock HU delivers a really clean signal, so I was content for a while, but the HU's internal 4-channel 25-W amplifier (at 4 ohms) delivering 12 W RMS really doesn't satisfy in terms of needed punch (road noise in the 8 is above average IMO).

The solution was to install a self-contained, self-powered Blaupunkt sub in the boot. It takes up very little space and adds that extra wattage and deeper bass to the whole system. Works great and saved me $$$ by not installing additional amps to the HU (or even replacing the HU since it doesn't have RCA outs). I can adjust the gain and crossover at the back of the sub, so after some tweaking I've got a good punchy soundstage

thanks guys.

was thinking of a place to buy and install. one-stop shop.

hopefully can do it this weekend. Just a simple set-up for the sound stage. I'll be shopping for CDT, Diamond Audio or something of that range for my components. Nothing in particular for rear fill. A nice amp to drive the components and maybe a pre-amp since our factory headunit doesnt allow us to fiddle around with it.

do we have any good installers here in Sin? need another 2 just to check them out.

thanks!
