undercarriage noise over hump..

Been a few occasions when going over hump carrying app. 15-20km/h the undercarriage seems to have some rattling noise. Has anyone encountered such problem with the RX8 6MT model ? It only happens when it is raining though for some reason. Coz when I sent my car back to MM to check when it wasn't raining ... everything seems fine. Not very sure if it is the undercarriage or the suspension giving out this noise actually. Any pointers will be great. Thanks

Mister 9: I also got the same problems. I suspect its the bushing for the front struts. Maybe Coupe can tell us more but with all the dreaded cockroach-like population of these speed humps, I think this problem will be more common for most cars.
I used to get it every now & then but now its nearly everytime I go over a hump with is very often.

I hate those things. Dunno why they need so many of them --the causeways are the worse. Should sue the gahmen for this damage to our cars.

I got this noise too recently. it only happens when it go over the hump.

I believe its from the suspension, but I think that theres nothing MM can do about it, cos they found out that theres nothing wrong with my suspensions, no leaks or crack.

I had the some rattle recently, but that is after installing the member brace and replacing the exhaust cat. Rattle was from the cat hitting the brace. MG did a fantastic job in resolving this problem.

Hi guys if you are talking about the creaking noise that is audible only at low speeds and over humps, then I got them too. At high speeds, your engine and road noise too loud to hear the creaking.
MM replaced both front and rear suspensions/bushings/coilovers and problem solved. I think it cost them $3000+
They told me that nobody has ever complained about this and I was the only one so far....seems a bit untrue now that I read your threads....

Ok. i had that sound and it was fixed with some grease.

But i know there will be 3 different sinario here. which everyone here might be different so please check each of them:

1. here is what happened. it is the srping. the spring is slidely dislocated, u have to turn it to perfect fit and put some grease in between the absorber and the spring.

2. this is my own experience also. This noise might be cause by LSD. it means time to check or change LSD oil. i had some noise undercarriage after i fix the wheel noise and after changing LSD oil the noise undercarriage is gone. this also might mean ur oil is too old or less than what it should be.

3. A friend had noise from under carriage, it was the metal cover for the exhaust pipe. it was deformed due to hitting humps or hard objects. so it create some noise when the car vibrates at a higher rate like going up humps and turning.

there's another area you guys might wanna look into, especially those who have had got their sway changed to aftermarket stuffs. Could be a loosen screw that causes the noise when go over uneven surface. My did, and was fixed.

could also be the brakes pads are frozen to the rotors with rust. and so when you move off there is sound? but this is not everytime. only mainly in the mornings, when rust has time to form.

at first thought was some bearing problem, then went mm and they said sound was from the suspension cos too stiff then they oiled it or something, now it's fine

no idea man... they said something abt oiling OR SOMETHING. i don't look like a tech person so i guess they can't be bothered explainin to me. all i know is noise caused by the suspension and not the suspected bearing

had a 'onk' sound when going over humps when the car is cold. found out it was the front left anti-roll bar bushing that what dry. sprayed some silicon grease. noise is gone.

BTW did you install any after market anti roll bar ? If you do, then it is caused by the bushing for the anti roll bar. It only happens when wet though. MM is quite generous actually .... they will even replace the bushing for you even though they know that is not their part. Good luck in your claim....
