Some questions and querie? can help?

Hi all bros out dere

Wanna ask u guyz some questions. If i to purchase a RX8 (6speed) and reg under my name. What would the insurance be like cos i'm only 21 but my licence still under probation. Cos i heard from those sales excutive if i reg the car under name it will be damn ex compared to reg under dad's name. Any comments for this?

What color of Rx8 has the fiercest outlook? any suggestions for me?
If made comparison between 350Z and rx8 which will better in terms of outlook. not comparing specs?

Thanks in advances man ... Cheers to rx8....

I guess that it depends where you are from...

In parts of Australia, its illegal for anyone on a provisional licence to drive an RX-8 (based on a power to weight formual). Certainly, insurance for anyone under 25, if you can get it, would be around $3,000..

Hi. Insurance will be "damn ex" for you, for sure. Your age, the license under probation and the fact that you are a first time car owner (?) militate against u. Cheaper to get your dad true, but troublesome if (touch wood) u claim insurance later on. U may not save much though.... ur dad may be asked to name the driver(s), and u'll attract a premium. Best to consider getting an old (cheap, low cap) car on the side and build your NCB. Me regret me didn't...

Black best :D Outlook is subjective - which do U prefer?

Hi illusion, someone with similar age/driving experience was quoted a premium of $4k+ from NTUC and $6k+ from other insurance companies. There is a reason for such high premiums. If you register under your name, you'll have to bite the bullet and pay the premium. If you register under your Dad's name to save the money and have to make a claim, not only would you have to fork out the high excess, you may also wipe out your Dad's NCB. Like I said, there is a reason why insurance companies charge such high premiums for young 1st time owners of high performance cars especially with provisional licences so don't fulfill the statistics. Naughty Boy is right, BEST is to get an old, cheap car and build up your NCB (and driving experience). Even 3rd party insurance can build up to 50% and be used for 1st party insurance later on.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. You should buy the car in the colour that YOU like, it's YOUR money afterall. But if you ask me, RX-8 over 350Z (obviously), bright colours over dark colours.

Illusion, you should put under your own name and bite the bullet. No doubt the premium will be high but you have to start somewhere. Otherwise next time when you want to start, you start from zero again anyway.

i just got my license 2... and they quoted my insurance at 6k plus....

so i registered under my dad's name, then on the insurance both of us are the named driver... and we bought 3 party coverage

so who ever drives the car we are still insured

the insurance px is 1k+
however my dad excess is 700, mine is 5700 and any driver above the age of 26 (i think) and driving experience above 2 yrs's excess is 1700

Chris, thanks for providing some real figures. Aside from the high excess, really very daring to get only 3rd party coverage for an expensive car especially for the first couple of years since the loan exceeds the value of the car even for full coverage. Like I said, drive carefully, sensibly and responsibly which I'm very sure you do. Guys tend to drive with more testosterone and ego which occasionally overrides logical thinking and becomes a concoction for disaster when coupled with inexperience. Ok, I can sense I plucked a raw nerve with some guys liao so let me qualify that by saying it's just a generalisation. If I'm not talking about you, then just disregard it. Don't flame me, coz u know it's true :p

3rd party coverage is basic liability insurance. The insurance company will pay for any damages you cause to other parties, but it does not cover repairs to your vehicle. I think 3rd party also does not cover fire and theft. Problem is if you *touch wood* total your car, or fire or theft. The insurance doesn't pay and the finance company/bank will want you to pay up the outstanding loan because the colateral/asset (your car) no longer exist.

Like I said, I believe you are not the reckless or irrational type of driver because you are not influenced by testosterone. Drive safe and lookout for other drivers who do silly things, there are plenty of them around, both male and female.

your insurance would drop significantly as you cross the 26 border(dunno why). And it is cheaper for females(though we keep complaining about them, the insurance companies have statistic that they crash less often than guys).

What i'll suggest is to find out how much excess if you are going to claim under your father. Add that to the amount of insurance your dad need to pay. Is it cheaper than the amount you are paying? If so then take it cos even if you crash you are spending less money than you get the insurance yourself.

Next question would be are you the type who might crash cars. If so, ahem...do ask someone else to register the car for you. If the person name you as driver during the claims, then the insurance company is likely to continue insuring the person with an increase in premium. But if you use your own name and you are first time driver, they might refuse renewal or worse terminate your insurance. Then you are really stuck. If you cannot find another insurer, good luck to your car(of cos you can dereg it and keep it at home as a furniture....).

Mine is quoted 4.8k because I transferred license from the States, so no driving record plus that i'm 26 as well. But I had my dad transfer his NCD to me, so its 50% off the premium :D So if your dad is paying a low premium and you'll save alot by transferring his NCD to you , you can do that transfer and save money
