I mis-read the "DSC warning light" as a CEL event, but that is the indicator that came on (I edited my other post.) I plugged the gauge in again today and got the same reaction shortly after driving it in-town, in normal stop-and-go driving. The DSC light came on and the tach started bobbing to zero. I doubt that was an error-number count. It seems more like a signal interruption. I don't know why the gauge would be interrupting the signal on the circuit. I guess I need to inspect the cable first and make sure it has no shorts or opens. I could handle it if it was very infrequent, but this looks like a problem that will pop up way too often. I need to figure out if it is a problem with the gauge or cable so I can return it if necessary.

I've never faced the DSC warning and tach bobbing problem. Confirm it isn't your ScanGauge by leaving it disconnected and driving around for a few days to see if it occurs again. If it only happens with the ScanGauge connected, then I think you better contact Linear Logic since you are in US to get a replacement. None of our units in this region has reported any such problems so far. Keep us updated on your findings.

I've already disconnected it once to try that but my biggest problem is I don't get in much driving time in the car to speed up the process. I'm in a town small enough to cross in 10 minutes or less or drive completely around in less than 30 minutes. There also are no real interesting driving routes, just lots of straight roads through the farmland, so it can get boring rather quickly no matter how great the car is.

Anyway, I am first trying to find out if any other RX-8 drivers have had these problems to figure out if there is a setting that needs to be changed or if there is a compatibility roblem with the car. I haven't contacted the company yet. Thanks for the information, though. I'll see what happens.

babhishek, the cost of the scangauge has been listed since the 6th post in this thread, but for your benefit, it's SGD$329. Shipping charges depends on your shipping address. Website is www.scangauge.com. If u want to get the scangauge shipped to Malaysia then you need to provide a shipping address for a quote. Once confirmed and payment received, then we'll ship it out to the address you provided.

babhishek, pls read Henry's post carefully. If it was really S$229, a lot of people who bought at S$329 would be really pissed including myself. Henry posted on 29 Jul at 3:25pm and edited at 4:09pm on the same day with this post https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...33&postcount=6

Well, look like I have to thank Henry for providing assistance in the background again, even though everyone is human and can easily mistaken the numbers and complicate matters. Of course it is possible to arrange shipping to Kuala Lumpur as long as you provide a proper shipping address. PM me your shipping information and I'll try to check the cost for you.

I got my ScanGauge II a couple of weeks ago and have had it hooked up. A few days ago, on two consecutive morning drives, it generated [edit] "a DSC warning light". I drive a loop from work to home that puts me on a highway for a few minutes. On both days, after driving to the onramp and running the RPM high a few times, prior to the onramp and again when merging on the highway, I settled down to the speed limit in 6th. After a few minutes at 65 I started slowing to get on the off-ramp and the [edit] "DSC light" lights up. Also, oddly, the tachometer started bobbing from the current rpm reading to reading zero, multiple times. I couldn't count them but I SUSPECT it was bobbing as a way to display the error code, the way some cars flash the CEL light to display the code.

After I got home I checked the ScanGauge for the code and it was "U0073". Zoom44's handy code list in the FAQ (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/rx-8-technical-info-cel-codes-pcm-pin-list-collision-guide-26291/) area says that is for a "CAN system communication error". The same code was generated both mornings at the same place in the driving loop, just before the highway exit as I started to slow.

I drove the same loop the next two mornings with the ScanGauge disconnected and did not get the error. Since I hadn't gotten it before using the gauge, I have to assume it is somehow causing the [edit] DSC light-on. I don't know if the code was event-driven or time-driven.

Has anyone else had this problem with the gauge? I am running it in whatever default mode it is set to on delivery. Does it need to be set to a different running mode for this car? I never touched the cable and it seemed to have a good connection, so I doubt that is the problem - but you never know, of course.
Today i encountered the same exact issue with my 8...DSC light went on...and RPM went down bobing to zero for couple of times...also got the U0073 appeared...

I disconnected the scangauge n the issue wasnt there...i read that U0073 appeared might be becos the Scangauge is not so compatible with our 8's PCM?

Shifty Devil,
Do you still encounter the issue with the Scangauge connected?

Shifty Devil,
Do you still encounter the issue with the Scangauge connected?

Discovered the this issue only happens when i set the scangauge to a specific backlight colour!

Experimented a few times, resetting the scangauge, everything was fine not until i set the backlight colour to light blue the DSC light comes one. Was so surprised. Ever since i did not use the light blue backlight colour the issue hasnt came up

I contacted the company and they are sending a new unit and a cable for me to try.

This is their responding email, I haven't received the new unit yet:

"We'll send you a new ScanGaugeII complete with cable.
"Like you I hope this is not indicative of a problem other than a defective ScanGaugeII or cable.
"The CAN protocol requires a differential drive. This means there are 2 signal lines and they change voltage in the opposite direction. It is possible that there is an erratic open on one of the lines causing the CAN bus to signal an error.
"When you get the ScanGaugeII, first just change out the cable and see if the problem goes away. This may require you use it for a number of days. If the problem still exists, change out the ScanGaugeII.
"Please, let me know the results."

I didn't put in enough time to be sure but I left it connected and on the main menu and did not get an error, so it may have to be in gauge mode to cause it. Interestingly, I had used the thing for a week or so before changing the color to red and the errors started after that. I will try resetting it and see if it makes a difference. My brother had a problem with it on his Focus and I checked with him and he didn't change the color from default. He says he changed something, probably a gauge item, and his dashboard low battery light came on.

Maybe there is a certain gauge item that causes it. I have been leaving two of them on MGP and GPH all the time and have changed the other two to other things to try them out. I think the other two currently are on LOD and a voltage reading. I think a gauge display selection would be more likely to cause the problem than the light color. Given the choice, I would hope it would be a firmware issue that's correctable rather than a hardware issue.

I just received a response about it displaying "garbage characters" when my brother tried it:

"The garbled characters are indicative of an erratic supply voltage. The voltage goes so low that the display loses the character set but not so low that the processor does a reset.
Ron"

I guess we'll see what happens when the replacement arrives.

I haven't got the new unit yet but the last two days I've tried it out with the color back to the default white and haven't had a problem either. It might be that simple, then. The only thing that comes to mind is that whatever they are using for the colored lighting (I'm guessing LEDs) may be drawing more power than the CAN line can supply. If the voltage drops too low it may look like a failure to the system or just not supply enough power to the circuitry. I'll let them know about this development, of course, and see what they say. I'm betting the new unit will behave the same way.

Well, I received a new gauge and cable and first hooked the old gauge to the new cable. When I first tried it I didn't have any problems on the first drive, but when I started the car later the same day it did the same old thing within a couple of minutes, and again the next day as well, so it wasn't the cable. I've tried the new gauge and cable for about a week, WITH the backlight color set, and HAVE NOT had a problem yet. I went ahead and mailed back the old gauge so it's just the new one from here on. If anyone else is having the same problem I would suggest contacting the company about a replacement. I did mention to my email contact that there might be others here with the same problem. I'm hoping it was a bad batch and not a problem with the design, but if anything else turns up I'll pass it on here.
