im very sad as being tease by most of my subaru , celica n even SHC forums aquitance.. As they keep saying the RX8 i own is being over declared BHP by mazda. Actually our 8 is less than 200bhp but actual fact they told me is only 170+BHP.. Being tiss(suan) by those ppl whose car R so much "cheapter" really makes me frown...

tis debate has been going on for eons. pretty sad tat performance is always the only tot that ppl think about when buying their cars. i admit tat if we compare performance, we may not be able to outperform some cars (ok, i have another bone to pick on ppl who make these comments too, sidetrack...

why ppl always want to compare cars they race on roads and win and assume their make and model is better. to me i will only believe two things. One, looks at the specs. if the specs say car A is better than car B then car A is better than car B, nuff said. Two, if micheal schumacher or whichever pro driver drives both STOCK cars and says one is better than the other then one is better than the other.

other than this, in my opinion, racing other cars depend on two things as well. One, how good the skills of the driver is. Two, how much you modified that car to booast its performance. so next time if someone wants to say for example, how much better a wrx is to a rx8, because they race someone on the road they better change their statement to "wah, i sibe goot driber ah, my car <insert make, model, modifications done> SBE4444G win <insert make, model, modifications done> SFU9999R sia" then we'll be the judge whether u really better.

now where was i...oh, yeah for me personally, it's not only about the performance that i got my Bianca. if all they ever think about is performance, why dun they go buy a lambo or something, then they confirm win. i got her coz i think she's gorgeous and i get looks from ppl admiring her (ok i'm vain so sue me :p ) and if ppl ask me why i pay so much for a car that is not as powerful as other cheaper cars, well to them i say "i rich wat, cannot meh!!"

Celica owners laughing at your 8? HA! Celica used to be good car, now they are very much like what the US's ad claims them to be 'Look Fast'. Now they are nothing but just a coupe (just look at their rear brakes). Only a few on the road are of higher spec.
Anyway, the RX-8 was indeed over claimed in their HP, 170+ is actually from the wheels...which is aint that bad. If one were to say dyno a Integra type R, who's been rated about (200-220BHP)? it will probably get there about on the wheels as well....
Subaru... they have a turbo under their bonnet....
Please bare in mind the RX8 is NA not FI! so be proud of it....

Most people who bought an STI or EVO are not good in driving cos most can't and do not know how to handle the power of a 200 over HP.

My 57 yrs old Dad driving a 1.6L Proton Waja can Win alot of 200 over HP cars on the heavy traffic in Singapore. As its the driving technique that counts.

Furthur more STI and EVO do not hav the sex appeal that an RX8 has.

Most people on the street will not have a 2nd look if a STI or EVO drive pass them. but its diff for a RX8

the evos and stis i can understand.... but the celicas and the honda pple???? ask them stand one side lah......... celicas, can chiet until dun chiet liao..... much less the cheebics..... some may argue that the cheebics are be so damn fast.... but that is only if its modded. if our 8 is modded the same way, the cheebics can go fly kite.....

there shld provide some consolations.

evos n stis are forced induced, so the comparison is not apple to apple.... so if they can win us, theres nothing to shout about...

I think my previous ride was SO much faster than any STI or EVO and it cost <$15,000! Nevermind that it was a Yamaha Vmax and could do 0-100kmh in 3 secs and quarter mile in 10.5secs, but the point is - anyone who says "my apples are better than your oranges" (or it's equivalent) just made himself/herself sound like an idiot. So dun feel bad. Did I juz sound like an idiot myself? :p

Come on... no big deal about Rex and evos.... some owners like myself and cuscorex drove a rex last time... 400++ bhp very fast! had 1 before but so what! The kind of modification the owner spend...... the maintainance cost are super high! They can win us on the road but then the wear and tear they have and the money they spend is beyond our imagination! they park in the workshop more than they drive it (means those who heavily mod) So many of them eventually sold the car after a year coz bua ta han!

the diff between the 8, rex and evo is when u goes up to a car valet...... when he hands u back your 8 with a nice smile and tells u that... "hey dude! u have a beautiful car!".....

If is a rex or evo, the valet will tell u..." Hey dude... I can't drive it, your racing clutch is horrible to drive!"

If they are that rich to mod a evo , or rex... then mob it and park it and get ready for race.... I will respect them! But if they mob a bit and start to bully other road users..... that's not acceptable! Drive such a good car so i think is not so nice to behave like bengs on the road!

I do agree with darkelfin, is about skills! modification is all about money..... who has more money....who can mob the car faster... the problem is how many can handle the car!

Lastly, i didn't regret buying the 8!

Aiya, dont be upset with that. RX8 is build in mind with special concept with new design and concentrated more on handling. Unlike Subaru and Mitsu, our car will not be so called "UPDATED" from EVO 8 to 9, with minor differents in engine and facelift. Then sell to those "EXCITED CHEAPSKATE" but then outgunned by an EVO 6. Crying why a new car just aint fast enuff. HUH huh huh.......

I'm proud of wat i'm having right now. Just be patient cause our engine is still unique and new before any factory will dare to put big guns into our car. I mean really big one..

it's not about performance, it's about paying for 238hp, and only getting about 215hp.

Yeah man!~ I simply love my ride. But always kana fm by other brands drivers telling me RX8 lousy... lose to this n lose to thats... dmp was right by saying paying so much for RX8 ,tot it was 250bhp after while realise it is only 231bhp abit sad already... n now? 170+bhp????? arrgghhh...

Most car declared bhp always varies from actual dynoed bhp. The reason is the condition the dyno is done and other factors like type of petrol etc etc (mi no expert but that much I know).

Just read in the Honda forum that 2 JDM euro R (220 bhp) was dynoed at 193bhp at 2 diff workshops. None of the owner gave a damn abt this and is happily thinking of other mods. Look at the typical workshop and u know what i mean. Conditions are diff from factory and hence not surprised result diff as well. Take 0 to 100 as another example. The condition that the result is taken eg 7.0s may not be easily achieved during normal conditions or even on tracks. Do u doubt the result?? No cos they factory test car is prob driven by a pro who rammed the rpm to 7k be4 he lauched etc etc (just guessing) so any sane driver will prob not achieve the result.

As long as ur butt feel is good, no need to lose sleep over things like that. If ur friend goes to dyno their car, the 'slippage' may be even more!

Let the girls decide. Put a 8 and rex side by side and ask which looks better. Most probably she will say her dad also drives the 'Subaru' just that the one in front of her is a beng version.

not everyone can drive a 8 when they have to fetch their famil around in a sedan like the rex and evo.

Lastly, throw a stone on the road and you will hit 3 or 4 rex in one shot but you may have to throw many stones to hit one 8. Why drive what everyone is driving.

over the weekend i was down at Plaza Sing. It was very full in the carpark, so I drove all the way up before making my way down again to find a lot. Guess wat, almost every leverl of the car park, there's one rex there... that's how common it is. And even with some trying to be diff with body kits, they still just looks the same some how?

Actually, i am the fastest in sepang ..My timing 5 sec per lap sometimes 10 sec per lap...depends on whether i am using my mountain bike or may BM.........X....
