Just wondering if the owner of the RX8 I saw in Makati and San Juan area a couple of weeks ago is a member of this forum.

The "owner" of the red RX-8 you saw is the top guy of Mazda Philippines.

I wonder how much it'll be sold over here...

That's what I heard too.

Btw, anyone know any info if they are going to sell the RX-8 in Manila and if yes, when?

I've wanted one since I was saw the RX8 in the US last year and was delighted to hear from the Mazda sales reps (in Quezon ave) that they are planning to bring in the RX8 for under 2M pesos.

I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed...

Yah, I supposed so but I'm a bit hesistant if I'll be the only one due to rotary engine servicing.

I heard before that Mazda PH is bringing in 50 units but I'm not sure about it anymore..

yup! that's one issue I thought about before. When I was there back last March when I saw the 8. I was planning on getting another 8 but in Philippines this time. In my knowledge, 8 will be the first to rotory engine in PI. So I changed my mind.
I have issue here in my town in Alaska. I'm the only one with an 8 and no mazda dealer. I have to ship it via Sea Land or get in a ferry for 13 hours, drive for 2 hours to a Mazda dealer. Costing me $450 round trip and that's only for the reflash, passenger airbag recall, and transmission damper recall. Dont know how many more trips I will do these following months.

Wow , that's alot of commitment for you. I'm curious, are Rotary engines really hard to service or can most competent mechanic do it?

it is a totally different from a piston engine. My friend here that recently graduated specialized in BMW cars and any cars I guess said that I better take care of it coz he doesnt know much bout rotaries. So I guess pretty much 100% of mechanics there in PI wouldnt know I thing unless Mazda Philippines send their mechanics for alot of training.

Hmm...i see, I did see quite a number of RX7's when I was in high school during the early 90's . I'm sure there are people who knows rotaries but just dunno them.

Btw, Mazda PH just did a launching on the Mazda 3 at Dusit Hotel in Makati today. Hope our local Mazda does well enough to consider bringing in the RX8 cuz their other offerings (Tribute and M6) are not selling well at all.

nevermind.. just read this.

The unveiling of the Mazda3 Five-Door follows on the heels of its stablemates—the Mazda6, Tribute, Mazda3 sedan and RX8, which were launched earlier this year and bring the number of Mazda’s entries in the Philippine automobile market to five.

Totalled already? That's too bad. And its a red one too!

I wonder how bad the mileage would be for an RX-8 there? I just remembered driving in SF pinoy-style last Sunday. I think it handles really well to the kind of zigzagging driving we have back there :D

RX-8 is still not being sold here. I inquired through some Mazda sales agents but they have no idea when it'll be launched.

Still crossing my fingers that Mazda will launch the RX8 officially hopefully this year (after my car payment with my existing car is done).

Brother just came back from there. He said he didn't see any 8s but he said the 3s are running rampant. Pretty neat.

wouldnt count on having parts for our 8s in PI. been asking my friends to look for parts but no luck. Last year April I was there and couldn't find anything for my GSX up here in Alaska also. I guess if you have a Honda you'll be lucky. Thats sad to hear the owner of the velocity red in PI totalled it. I'll be going to PI in April and bringing major parts (big 16g turbo, down pipe, manifold, full exhaust, suspensions, etc.) for my eclipse that I have down there. Streetraces...? check out Quezon City, Makati, Alabang, or Pasig. We used to race in Alabang and Pasig.
