Thumbs up Petrol mileage issue

Hi all,I heard a lots of my frens telling me that shell petrol is the one can give u more mileage.Example: shell 50 dollar can go 300km
petronas 50 dollar can go 290km
caltex 50 dollar can go 260km
izzit true?since the petrol price is increase so i just want to find out which petrol can give our car more mileage n save our $$$$.
I seldom pump petrol at shell coz i always feel that petronas is the best so what u guys think and which petrol u all normally pump ,which petrol u guys feel is the best for car perfomance?Pls vote and give some comment....ur reply is important..thanks

for me I all the way use Shell cause all prices abt the same la... using unleaded 95 for now... so I hope this does help your choice...

but ah tan...shell really give the more mileage compare wif others?Some ppls said petronas lah,some said mobil lah.I really want to get the actual answer for this...hope all of u can share some experince...thanks anyway.

If you are talking about petrol in Malaysia .. I still think SHELL is the best power and the best mileage. But having said that Petronas new Primax comes second and it is in fact a very close second. Mileage diff is only about 50km diff most in one full tank. But if you are living in Singapore .. to pump petrol in Malaysia is so cheap even after the new price hike and even for the slightest gain I will still go for SHELL. Maybe I just dun quite like the name petronas. (Personal pref)

I ahve tried the lot. i don't see any diff in mileage except in the prices of the gas. I thot Shell was good but then the next week it was average. The Caltex one week and it was good.... it really depends on your driving style. Try driving without using the brakes as possible. This will dictate (your petrol saving) new driving style. But not only save on $$ / gas but also brake pads!

Sometimes very hard to tell. Alot of factors affect power and FC. Cool days give more power, humid days less power, etc.

Also not forgetting is if you are driving on the NS highway most of the time. That makes a diff.

hey you guys actually tried using unleaded 95 on the rx-8? I know the 95 is allowed according to the manual but the damn agent keep insisting to use 98 unleaded. Any feedback on using the 95? if there is no problems then i can switch to unleaded 95 since damn fuel prices soaring so high.

You do realize that you are only saving a very little amount of money each time you fill up, I'm sure if you can afford a RX-8 in Malaysia you are pretty well off and shouldn't be worried too much about what to use. Just get the best RON as far as I'm concern expensive petrol is cleaner and helps keep your engine in tip top condition. Just so you know a full tank of Shell (from full till the last line on the fuel gauge) lasted me 450km.

If the manual says 95, its perfectly all right to use 95. RON numbers dictates how fast the fuel combust, the higher the number the slower it combust. Higher RON thus allows more advanced timing in car engines without detonation while at the same time yield more power. Your car is most likely tuned for RON 95, eventhough you stuffed higher RON inside you will not get the benefit of higher power. However if you use something too low, the fuel combust too fast and the car's knock sensor will detect and retard the timing a little. You don't wanna rely on this coz you never know when your knock sensor is faulty. If you hear sound of "marble in a tin can" after you try lower RON, it means your engine is suffering from the knock.

Of course i understand that i can't save much money for that n of course i never concern about the money since as what u said if i can afford to buy a 8 in malaysia so i'm pretty well off.What i read from some others forum different pretrol give u a different mileage izzit true ?And which is the best?wat actually show at the poll now shell is the best....but sometime i really scared to go shell in malaysia coz got few case the outlet actually mix water wif the petrol...bloody hell imagine ur car down bcoz of the stupid action

This is only a suggestion. Although I have not owned a RX8 I had RX7's before, so with the Renesis engine I not very sure if it works. Train your RX8 by first going 50/50 of RON95/98 for 1 tankful; followed by 75/25 resp and finally 100% RON95. This way your ECU will slowly adjust to the lower octane fuel. However, if at any point your engine "pinks" (detonation) you have to go back to RON98. Considering the amount of savings it may be worth your while to try.

thanks for ur reply tiksing,i always tot that the higher the number the faster it combust...i going to try mobil 1 coz my fren told me it give more power for our car

i've always been on Shell, recently switched from 98 to 95 to save money....petrol getting bloody expensive!
My GF is also on Shell and when she tried SPC once, she reckons that Shell gives more mileage...

Dun worry, if not on FI, rotary can take low octane (89 oso can) without det. Numerous threads on this board have confirmed liao.

But the ECU training part might work..

Your mileage has a lot to do with how you drive, seriously this is what I experiment with. As for water mixed petrol, it happens everywhere especially when the petrol station is located at low places and malaysia has some rainy seasons. I would put a higher RON if I can because I've read articles about expensive containing detergents, they burn cleaner and leave less deposit. I don't know how true this is but since it doesn't cost too much, I'll go with it.
