which one would u choose? and why?

thinking of changing rims for a long time now. went to Leong Seng and YAP Bro.

the first is ProgressivME from VOLK.
second is Superturismo from OZ.
third is Ultraleggera from OZ which comes in either silver or matt graphite.

most important, it must look cool. secondly, weight. thirdly, improving FC. fourthly price. lastly, resale value.

and also can anyone just name a few tires which is both value in money and performance. i am lookin at one which lowers the noise coming from the tires too. thanks... been driving my 8 for a long time now. hoping to get him a good set of wheels that he deserves...

welcome any comments or any other recommendations. oh ya, and also around how much will i be looking at if i choose one of the three rims (include tires as well). i think so far LS and YP only have stock for Ultraleggera. oh ya, how do i know they are selling me new rims and not second hand rims? i admit i'm a newbie when it comes to buying rims and tires.

THANKS A MILLION!

1. I'm a simple person so i like rims with less spokes. So ... if there were no other rims on the planet and I had no choice, I'd go for the Ultraleggera from OZ. If no stock, no size then I'd take the ProgressivME from VOLK in graphite. Cos it looks nice. As with most things in fashion, the shoes must match the outfit. Unless you are Ronald McDonald.

2. Weight shouldnt be a problem since you picked premium rims.

3. Fuel consumption: If you're moving up from 16", FC gets worse. If you switch from stock 18" to lighter rims, FC gets marginally better i guess. Maybe tyre compounds make a difference, but thats race car level. But i dont think it's by much. Unless you are running racing slicks. heheh

4. No money, no honey. To me they are all very ex cos i money no enough.....its a cruel world out there. =)

As for resale, tyre info perhaps others have more imput, i'm as clueless as takumi.

for me, the ultraleggerra graphite grey was love at first sight...and the carbon fibre wheel cap stole my heart away.

but then again, a set of rims to the ride has to blend in like a complete package.

rims are really a personal preference.

to me less is more but to some ppl this rim does not have enough substance becoz the spokes are too thin and few as compared to the superturismo.
the superturismo should match better on the 8. if i remb correctly, a similar rim was matched to the 8 in the hyper rev mag on the rims section.

if u are into OZ why not look into Michealangelo range.

but then again wat's yr priority? $$$, value, looks, performance?

i think the progressiv range will set up back at least 1K per rim.
if i am not wrong it's double the price of OZ.

have you seen the new mazdaspeed rim?
similar to progressiv but in my opinion, more aggressive.

just my $0.02 worth.

btw i juz notice u drive a black 8 which in my opinion is soooo easy to match
in terms of colour. from blink blink chrome to hyper black, gold, copper,
graphite grey to polished alu.

wat kind of look do u wan ur car to achieve? racing look or designer look??

between the 3, the VR ones, looks more designer... however VR rims always premium price.

Racing looks wise, between the 2 OZs, i will go for super turismo.... the ultraleggera looks way too common, A lot of lancers have it...... my take is, dun be a commoner......

not afraid to admit, i am having a commoner rim, the CE28N. it bugs me long enuf, but end of the day, i went ahead with wat i always like, bronze and multi spokes..... moreover my kit does not suit the designer rims, therefore i opted for racing look. seriously.... its how u wan ur car to look like, end of the day.

Tyres wise, for quiet n good on wet n dry, go for eagle f1. Dun have to get the german made ones. The thai made ones shld more than suffice. dun worry abt quality. Both are from goodyear with QC. HEARSAY.... (hearsay only) the thai made ones are made to be suitable for the South east asia climate....... correct me if im wrong (as always quoted by low_rider, the hello kitty sports rider)... :D

Since style and weight are the top 2 wants - go for the Volks, then the Ultraleggera - forget about the OZ's ST - bloody heavy.

Consider Advan and Prodrive rims too and since cost ain't a problem, BBS is another premium brand too.

Try the link page below for various rims and tyre manufacturers - happy "shoe" shopping.

i just realise a neighbour of mine has superturismo fitted on his lancer. so i guess that rules out one option already. i dont want something too flashy. infact i'm looking into something that has multiple spokes which i hope to hide my brake calipers cuz it aint that large or flashy with 'brembo' written on it. and i think autos have smaller diameter disc as compared to the 6 speed manual. hee!
as for the volks, its kinda ex and i need to wait for them to bring it in. unless some others shop have stock for it. other than LS and YB, which other rims shop are having a wide range of rims to chose from?
thanks for all the replies!

if u r a fan of 5 spokes rims.... leong seng now has a set of grams light 57, light weight concept.

This rims is slightly dark polished, light and most importantly, if i dun see wrongly, the offset is ok for rx8. price is quite cheap for an 18in, light weight, japan made, rim. go grab it fast.

Greeting to All

New here. My 5MT will arrive in next month.

A famous garage told me that the standard shock absorbers will not last a year if change the rims from standard 16" to 18". Is this true?

Did anyone here change the rims to 18" without upgrade the shock absorbers? Any "side-effect"?

Cheers.

IMO you can't go wrong with Eagle F1 GS-D3. It offers the best overall wet and dry performance. But if you want all out dry performance, I think Yokohama advan AD07 is the best. As for made in thailand and germany eagle f1, I have tried both makes and here's my observation. The made in germany ones seem to have a softer semi-slick like compound. The tyres are sticky after long hard drives. The made in thailand ones doesn't seem to be as sticky. The reason could be as what coupe07 said, its made for SEA climate, ie. help with the tyre wear. The made in german ones might be too soft and wear faster in our blistering hot climate (someone please invent an aircon tt can cool the whole of SG!!!) As for which gives better performance, I still haven't had a chance to fully push the car with the made in thailand f1 as that car is still being run-in.

okay, i've decided on the ultraleggera. going to get it fixed this weekend. one more doubt, what is the width of the stock 18inch? 8 inch or 8.5 inch? what width should i get. i dont want one too wide cause scared FC may suffer, but at the same time i tink it must look good ... any suggests or comments?

Stock is 8" 225/45/18. I think 8.5" with 245/40/18 is good enough and FC friendly. Going 245 front and 265 rear will really hurt your FC.
