My blitz sonic power intake finally arrived

After waiting for like a month my intake finally arrived. I had a good idea what i wanted in an intake, loud agrresive and better throttle response above revs of 5000. But i was also prepared for drop in low end throttle as suggested by some threads.

Initially it didnt seem much louder but i was so wrong. My exhaust note totally opened up into a roar from 4000 onwards and i was also surprised that i actually enjoyed better low end as well. Even on 6th gear i can now feel the pull which was absent before. A good buy i must say and damn im happy with the sound.

Should have done a test sprint or 1/4 mile run before and after to get a comparison, otherwise one can never tell if it's just psychological. That's why I bought a G-Tech precisely for this reason.

Heh heh... I get your point about the 6th gear. Generally, you can get an idea if there is any effect from a power mod within a 1/4 mile run.

Way better then relying on "hearsay" others who just say its good but cannot prove it or using one's to test the 2 hp gain.

I don't understand why all you people have to get so negative and antagonistic over someone's opinions or feelings about a purchase.

chill dude...

these 3 bros here happen to be more technical based and they are always giving us the facts and figures when we request for it. (if you have been reading the threads here...you will know flyer and emperor can go into depth about the technicality of how the air filter sucks in air)

don't take it to heart ok...all very nice people.

Sorry if i offended you. Type those words as a generalisation; not against you. Forgot what you post earlier and i was type it in response to flyer's post.

No harm intended and hope no harm done.

Yup, i am very skeptical of things especially performance claims. Especially in Sg when advertisers need to substanstiate claims and are not liable for claims for false advertising. I am actually aiming these people rather than personal opinions based on personal experience.

Eg. Like those magnets ad. "My car feels lighter and faster with this *magnet*" "My fuel consumption reduced 15%"

And note last line 15% is like 72 km more out of a 60 litre tank based on 8 km/l. wtf? Why wasn't it installed in the car in the first place?

bro, i can understand where u r coming from.

Air intakes, seriously many are very psychological. Juz becos its loud, many felt there are gains. In any open pods, low end sure lose. The best open pod in the mkt oso will lose slight low end. I have not tried the RE ones, but i guess that one will be the best one out in the mkt now. Air intake solely will nvr give u the crazy horsepower gains.

To be frank, u name any open pods in the mkts, i shld have tried it before. yes, even the K&N 2nd gen, AEM and some other more ulu ones. By far, the best i have tried is the one from racing beat, but that is before i tested the RE-A ones and autoexe ones. Those are the ones that are truly developed and designed for the rx8. I shld tink they shld outperform all the others in the mkt.

Ok, back to blitz open pod. I have tried on one car, he oso noes himself, i oso told him directly that low end is lost. Put back a stock box and u will feel pickup is more powerful. However high end shld be pretty good, which is true for all open pods.

THe best open pod is the one that let u lose the least low end torque without any idling problems. RE-A has done that (accordng to previous thread on RE intakes), racing beat has done that, Autoexe ones yet to try. I noe there are a lot of HKS intakes supporter out there. However, do take note that u must not remove the VFAD duct for the HKS intake to work. I have tried it without the duct, and the low end suffered terribly. I have not tried on with the duct, but sources told me its pretty ok.

Bro Coupe07 sums it all up. Even with most drop in, low end will still be lost.

Personally i do not really fancy the HKS filter.

On a similar vein and no real point here: I just had my car serviced this morning and decided to splurg and get their HKS's rotory oil instead of my usual semi-syn shell. (I have been sick the past two weeks with a bad flu so I saved money on beers but now spend on special oil!)

Aiyah... I feel the car is faster by 2hp too!! Just joking! ;-)

Actually, I can't feel a difference in how it drives. I guess it will make a diff on the rotar tips in about 400,000 kms down the road? (Less wear & tear?) It cost me twice as much than my usual. Ummmmmph...?

Rotory synthetic oil is not supposed to make u feel faster or smoother. Juz dat they can burn completely in ur engine. Dats y they are special and more expensive, compared to normal synthetic oil.

Btw shell is not even semi syn, they only have either mineral (yellow bottle) or full synthetic (grey bottle).

Synthetic or mineral, u still got to change every 5000km.

Wah... you the Rotary SeeFoo! Actually, I am using some sort of semi-syn... caltex, shell or Mobil... even maybe ChinaStar... really dunno... its some semi anywayz.... oil is oil.

btw. what do you mean rotary oil burns more complete? Whats the benefit of that? Does it help the petrol burn more complete too?

No man bro , if you are servicing your car at MM they will only change your fully synthetic every 10000km. Only mineral they will change it at 5000km.

But I have ask them before to bring my own oil but too bad they said I can't and must use theirs.... hope they have change the policy now coz I really feel like trying some other oil like the xrev or something out of curiousity....

if u still do not noe, mazda did really issue a report and says their roatry engine are to use mineral oil only. Therefore if u go mazda, they WILL NOT change to synthetic oil for you. I have the black n white with me.

Mazda is using shell synthetic. No way they can be used for rotary engine. Only use rotary synthetic oil for rotary engine. This is important if u do not want ur oil pump ur apex seal to be damaged.

Aiya, you did a oil change sure feel some power increase. This is the same trick advertisers use to show before and after dyno reports.

hmm..... can I clarify that mineral oil only applies to certain newer model or something? In fact the first 15000km I was using mineral with them .... thereafter they were the one recommended me to use shell fully synthetic oil from them so that I dun have to come back every 5000km but only after 10000km..... and I have been doing that for almost 2 years now ........

I do track my car and yet the engine still feel brand new..... hmm..... just out of curiosity ....... if they were wrong with the use of synthetic oil to my car..... if something wrong with the car ... they will have to bear the damage cost???? after all it is still under warranty ..... pls can someone make this clear ....

mazda recently release a bulletin to announce only mineral oil to be used in their rotary engines. the service guys shldn be recommending synthetic oil to u.

the damage to ur seal is not immediate. long term usage of wrong synthetic oil will cause ur apex seal n rotors to be damaged due to unburnt deposits in the engine.

Ur warranty is only 3 yrs or 100,000km, whichever occurs first.

For car serviced by MM even with Synthetic oil, there shld not be any prob becos they clear the carbon deposit everytime u send ur car in for service. Thats what the supervisor said. Its the PI cars that uses Synthetic in their own workshop that may have some prob later as most outside workshop does not clear the carbon for u. MM has been doing that since day 1 regardless of what oil u use when u send it ur car for service. Its in their service procedure. Anyway use only mineral or rotary oil from now.

I thot alternatively, they could take it for a long drive into Malaysia to burn off the carbon..... just like in e movie Ferris Bueller's day off.

How do they clear the carbon? By simply revving till redline for a minute? Or taking apart the engine?
