Irritating Sound!!!

Any bro here can share your views on clig clak sounds coming from the front (only on the left side)?

Potentially shocks or lower arms area. Was told by some bros that it is normal as some 8s come with this sound and their are deemed to be from the oiginal shocks. Only way to solve the problem, is to change to performance shocks or coil overs. Any facts to this saying?

Thanks in advance!!!

Cool Left....

If it's only on one side, something is wrong -

.....check the end link on your anti-sway bar, they are quite delicate and will click if damaged.

it could also be from the seat. MM check and i believe they did some thing to the seat. maybe tighten it. But yes i believe some noise is from the door. and also sunroof. hahhahah i am starting to leave with it. Initially i cant get used to it then now just blast the music when in the car park or rough surface.

I think the noise is not a issue when travelling on normal road right.

Does the sound occur when you are not in the car?

Is it the aircon compressor kicking in or just some parts need oiling. Or is it the aftermarket shocks?

Check behind your brake rotors. The could be stones stuck between the rotors and the wind deflector plate. I had that annonying sound too. All is quiet after a good clean up

thanks for all your points.......it is definitely not any sound that i can live with as it kind of sounds like some joints are not properly tightened. I'm sure it comes from the lower arms or suspension area and it travels to my steering making it feels like the steering box is loose even though it is not as I've sent for checks before.

Guess will have to visit MG asap soon........ Well, if there is a monster in your 8, who you gonna call? MONSTER GARAGE!!!

ha ha ha........Good slogan boh???

This morning i heard the rattling sound from the passenger side again.
Was kind of irritated by it. When i reach a junction i turned around and shake the passenger seat and it give out the same sound.

So i am sure mine is due to the car seat. Anyone have the problem?
What can i do as i been to MM twice with this problem and both time they never manage to solve it. sigh.....

I've got the same sound if you are referring to e sound that comes from e passenger seat and it only happens when someone is seated on it and travelling over some uneven road or over humps.

tried getting MG's mechanic to check but no matter how we shake the seat, sound doesn't come out le......think e car is afraid of the mechanic la.....

meantime, i'm living with it as in e ids of sorting out e warranty issue with my PI....

Mine is different. The sound come out only when no one is seated and travelling on uneven road. If there is someone seated then there wont be any sound.
When i shake the seat the sound came out.

I believe the seat maybe loose.

Hi Maki2,

I too am hypersensitive to noises. I have 2 :

1) Front suspension sqeaky over bumps on wet days. I believe it is the nylon mounting bracket for my Whiteline sways. Analogy : when pavement is wet rubber soled shoes squeak as you walk. No cure, perhaps a squirt of WD40 or silicone lub? At the bracket not your shoes ! Couldn't be bothered since it goes away when dry.

2) Passenger window area. No amount of window wind up/down, down/up, shaking of door, shaking of seat and putting the seat belt properly in the holder would make it go away. I suspect it is inside the door, something perhaps the door lock connecting rod touching the glass. Couldn't be bothered since I usually have the BOSE on loud.

BTW I have installed Accumat acoustic insulation (Autobacs $250) in all the doors since 2003 - improved the BOSE lo freq as well as (surprise2 !) the hi freq. As though doubled the power without changing the amp. Sorry I digressed but can't help plugging for this as too many unfair criticisms of the BOSE from a over the world. ICE equipment only. Domestic HiFi stay away from BOSE !!

Hope this helps.

Sad to say I will be saying adios to my RX8 and this forum. Next week I take delivery of my Audi TT Roadster. Yippy !!

Sorry Eugene, if you read this, I decided not to take MX5. Overcome by itch !

Ya i realise the sound came from the door too. Inside the door. But when i try to jam brake or whatever to make the sound come out to show MM they DONT!!!
But every morning when i drive especially without music on the sound is DAMN loud. Wonder if i really should live with it and stop going back to MM regarding this. Tried of making the trip there. Even the seat they cant do much. Sigh.... Maybe Jap car are like this after a few years?.........

for those who have some squeak sound and it only makes noisewhen the car is moving, here is the solution:

determine which side it is by lifting the front fender (hold the arch and lift it like u gonna lift the car, but of course u wont be able to lift the car becos its heavy) doing this will cause yr suspension to flex up and down, to simulate moving... if u hear squeaks... then get yr mechanic to remove the whole front suspesion..

the spring top seat the rubber which is in contact with the spring is the cause of this sound. it may look fine but it can make the sound. so what u do is to apply grease on the rubber and the top part of the spring where they come in contact
also to apply grease in the 1st few loops of the spring where the rings will touch becos the weight of the car will press down.

if it is ur suspensions or springs, never ever put any form of WD40 or anything similar to e effect as it will damaged ur rubber(s) bushing in long run. e right stuff to put on will be none other then Grease.

As for e sound from e door, u are rite, nothing and i mean nothing can be done to see which part of e door ot comes from and I've banged, knocked, tapped, looked, stared, peeped, sayang and even kissed it...........Sound Still There!!!!!!

it is getting on my nerves and it feels like I'm driving a fast and chio looking Pick Up Truck man,,,,,,,,,,.........sigh....

wat u really need is a day of leave from work and get down to e bottom of it la...............

was thinking of sound proofing e doors too, will it help to remove those sounds????

cheers

Maki2 is right. Needs a lot of time and effort to investigate and micro analyse. Make sure that it is not something external and silly like flopping seat belt. Insulating the doors may help. Whilst doing it have a 100% internal check and tightening. Hope this helps.

I have just send in my car to MM this morning. I complain to them about the sound from the door, the steering sound and vibration of the car when high speed braking.

The SA got a mechanic to seat in my car and i drive around to show them the car. ( i was hoping the sound comes out unlike the previous time)
Although this time the sound is not obvious but the mechanic heard it.
He told me he will check the whole door for me.

I leave the car there for the whole day and in the evening the SA called.
He told me the steering sound is already solved. They spent alot of times checking the sound. Next is they changed the whole front brake rotor for me. Brand new and FOC since under warranty. ( I am impressed as i always tot rotor is wear and tear) But i bought a new brake pad from them as he suggested that i change a new pair so there wont be vibration. ( I got it from them since they already change the rotor foc)

Lastly when i am there, there is a few tech checking on my car. I saw them driving it out and coming back shaking their head. The the SA came to me and said sorry to me to make me come down as the car is not ready yet. he suggest that i drive the car back and arrange another day to come back for them to test.
He told me the they suspect it could be the car door lock that is causing the sound and they would replace the car lock for me and some other parts.

I am very happy with the service MM provide to me and they change parts for me FOC which i never tot they would.

Will collect my car tomorrow and hope that the sound is solved.
I will ask them what cause the sound.
