Just got home and had to use duct tape to secure the falling under carriage

I had a similar experience on the straight stretch of Macpherson Road between Paya Lebar and Hougang Ave 3/Eunos Link. Was driving my Subaru along and saw a flash of something flying across the road and before I knew it, I ran over it with a loud thump to the undercarriage. I turned into Tai Seng Ave to check but thankfully no damage. My rear passenger said he saw something like a rock bigger than the size of two fists on the road after we were "hit" and suggested that maybe all the road works along that stretch had left the huge rock and a lorry in front had caused it to roll across the road. Davester, let us know how it goes... take care.

Ouch, sorry to hear that Davester...what bad luck. Doesn't sound like a small animal tho, based on your description of the damage. Have you been able to determine the cause yet? Maybe go back to the area and have a look around?

Hope your ride gets fixed fast....

Hi all,

Thanks for the input.. Went down to Yap bros to let him hav a look and take some pics, he may b able to order the stuff direct from japan...or mayb if anyone has changed their front spoiler may have left over parts they wanna sell...??

Dunno if mazda motors will carry ready stock, let alone sell me anything (cause mine is PI)

Anyway, though painful, luckily damage is not too bad...took a better look today. Its the front rotary plastic triangle and the whole black plastic strip below that broke into pieces....so the flat engine mud protector was hanging down.. I managed to do some handy work with good quality black duct tape so the damage isn't too obvious.

will keep updated.

Davester, based on what you've said recently then it could have been a small animal. I forgot that you said you were driving at 80 clicks when it happened. At tat speed, hitting a small animal could probably have ripped the front black plastic apart, which in turn could have damaged the mud protector and rad fins as the plastic pieces get knocked backwards with force.

Only thing is, I once hit a racoon while driving in a non-lit area at night (hey, totally an accident!) and I found blood spots and a bit of fur in the undercarriage. Thankfully, no damage to the car (the front was resilient soft plastic) , but the poor animal was history. No flames please from animal rights groups.... :o

Bro,

thankfully you hit a racoon. My friend hit a kangaroo.... the fellow lay stunned. Oh... please do not get out to inspect. Cos after a few sec the fellow woke up. Luckily he was alert and went back to the car fast cos the roo started scratching the car trying to get revenge on him. Limped off after a while... The car was in total wreck. Dunno if the roo would survive the 'internal' injuries though...

Ugh, terrible situation! Imagine hitting an aminal the size of a roo! My brother hit a dog once at night on the highway and after stopping, the animal had already limped off. He looked everywhere in the darkness, but no aminal was found. The left front end of his Accord was bashed in, major impact.

nothing could more worse then seeing a cat being run over by SBS bus tyre. the poor fellow got pressed by the tyre and got flung in the air because it tried to cross the road. It was miracle that the cat survived but.... better not say.

Well, I got a chance to thoroughly inspect my car yesterday....couldn't be an animal....no traces of blood or animal remains at all...just scratches on the plastic...so I guess its probably some rock, plastic or wooden stuff...

Anyway talking about running over animals...I previous drove my 34GTT up the northsouth highway... It was early in the morning just as the sun was rising...I think those birds were still half asleep cause I think I ran over about three of them on 3 seperate occasions :D ...not too cool though cause after that there was a smell comming from the car! I think they got diced and ended up all over the radiator ... :p

After reading all this talk about encounters with animals, let me share my experience which happened about 5 years ago. Was driving with my enitre family across the causeway when I detected a foul smell as I opened the windows at the immigration counter. First thought was the hygiene standards there was really bad. When we reached out destination, i noticed that the smell was still with us. Checked the wheel arches housing and tyres to see if I picked up any foreign objects and found nothing. On the way back to SIN, the smell so unbearable that I had to open the windows and virtaully stick my head out all the way back home. When I reached home, I decided to clean the car inside out by spraying with the car, tyres and just about every crevice which can be reached. And guess what, the smell persisted and in fact it got worse until even neighbours were asking what was causing it. My maid suggested I open my bonnet and when she peeped in, there was a decapitated cat which was totally stuck in between the fan blade and its body and fur was stuck onto some of the metal parts including the exhaust manifold. Guess the poor creature must have been looking for some warm place to cuddle and found its way into the engine bay and i unknowingly ended its life in a most cruel way.

That is a good point to remember. Cats like to sleep underneath cars. Many ended up dead cos of that habit. Messy....
