Are you really happy with your stock rims?

Guys...haven't got my 8 yet, but tossed about whether to replace the stock rims vs. dropping the dough on a new set. For those that own the 8 with the stocks...are you happy with em? Let's say you have an extra $2.5k or so to spend and the money gods say you must spend it on your 8...are new rims your prime consideration or what else would you upgrade first?

I liked my stock rims, until the dealership parked my car an inch from a curb and when i drove off scratched them slightly. That caused me to get a new set...

I love the stock 18" rims, so the $2.5k will be spent on other parts (performance and handling related). Anyway, $2.5k won't get you something very nice, right?

Well, I have seen a couple of Rays rims that looked pretty classy, but it was way too expensive - something like $900+ for 18"... without tyres...

Fab...forget the cost for a minute...if you have the money at disposal and had to choose...new rims or something else? Save for bodykit? Engine enhancement?

I will spend on the RIMS (Regardless of the cost) if I have fitted or setup all the things that I wanted to on the RX8. Then that will be the last thing ...
The Original RIMS, wasn't that bad, tho if it is bronze or gun metal will be very "Chio"...I will be keeping the RIMS

Engine enhancements, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, etc will come first. Changing the appearance of the 8 is not high on my priority list as the car already pretty cool looking.

Yes I see, thanks for the post. Ok, then where I'm coming from has to do with either 1) performance is the prime concern, or 2) looks are the prime concern.

True. Of course you can have both looks & performance; but then you'll have less $ left for the other fun stuff in life!

OEM rims were okay, until I saw the dark chrome Mazda wheel. Bought a set now will have to decide what to do with the OEM's, sell, chrome and sell, ????

Oh so controversial! Where's the balance between sinking yer hard earned bucks into your 8 vs. having a life. hehe....given the costs of owning cars in Sing, maybe it's all we have

I'm keeping my stock rims... at least until the first set of tire change. Many other things are higher on my priority list than the rims, which aren't 1/2 bad anyway.

Hahaha... my car is not even here and i have already bought my rims. IMO safety and power first then the remainder on "cosmetic" stuff.

At this present moment, i have roughly planned out what i will be getting.
-engine oil cooler (A MUST)
-ms wing
-strut bar ( have to decide between ringer's and fab's)
-defi gauges for sure, looked at it for almost 1 year (I'm with you Naughty)
-Tires (cant drive with only rims right and must get good one)
-i would love the gull wings but wouldnt want to have a run-in with the law but GREAAT attention grabber, especially the ladies.
-feelin the veilside2 front bumper only but dont know whether will give the impression that trying to look like a ferrari. also havent found side skirts and rear to go with it because it sucks.
-boomerang auto engine start.....hai......not advisable to install......sad

oops definitely went over the budget... give me everything in hyper rev vol. 96!!!

Agree with you on engine cooler. But if dont track much its not a worry...

Er, hold on, I hope u r toking abt aftermarket oil cooler right? COz ours already have a tiny useless piece of shitty *** cooler. Euro's slightly betta with 2 tiny pieces of **** *** ones.

I have done up a water spray system too. Very good indeed, exceeded my expectation big time. The freaking sprays can reduce my oil temp by up to 10 degrees which is excellent since i have been running 130 average peaking at 142 at Sepang! Kana Sia Car!

Will be looking at HKS oil cooler and its cost - abt 1.3K. Going bankrupt soon man...

I have really no idea what is a coilover but i do know strut bar. i also just checked hyper rev and these are 2 seperate parts, the exhaust and mufflers. even after browsing through both i havent found anything that cost less than S$1500

NEON is yours an auto or manual? i am getting an auto and it only comes with 1 oil cooler and not too sure if should get another one. do you have any idea as to how much an original and OEM cost? at the moment workshop said it will cost bout S$600.

also any good and not pricey suspensions you can recommend?
anyway to increase performance in auto too?
I hope i can tag along with you guys in the future when heading to sepang cause never drove past border before. that time wanted to go see JGTC but nobody knows how to go...so sad...there goes ARTA nsx and DENSO sard supra.

LOL.

Yes, mine is a manual....Hmmm, dont really see the need for additional or bigger oil cooler if urs an auto sir. Unless u drag ur AT gear every lap. Also, i think ignorance is Bliss sometimes, simply dont instal an oil temp guage...hehe

exhuast - me toking about Kui Toh + Cat mods.. Just feel that Branded ones are pricey and moreover also fail LTA. So y risk? (MAN or FongKim, up to ya)

Did me spray at GR. Very neat n tidy installations plus good items(Sprays+hoses etc, all beli gd ones) used, so a bit pricey too...

For suspension, pricey=? 2K is reasonable. If u have seen Hyper REv, all them r coilovers. U can opt for springs only but still costly (MS ones).

Maybe going on 15th or 22th. Not confirmed....will update...going with colleagues....

Fab8, did u instal a flywheel already? If yes, care to update? :D

P.S. nothing much i can think of for AT. Realli restrictive if i may say for PERF mods...sori..

Ok I'm convinced...thanks for all the posts everyone...new rims it is. It's not really a pure performance issue for me, the stock 6MT will already deliver that, but of course I want rims that will not only be pleasing to the eye, but also add a bit of extra handling. Thing is, the stocks are already light at ~21 lbs with +50 offset so can do some caliper mods down the road (xcuse the pun) with room to spare. So many rims, so many great choices, so many great posts and pix in this forum. However, I want to keep the Potenza's so I'll be looking around for 18 x 8's, similar offset as the stocks, hopefully lighter than 21 lbs. Volks maybe but pricey, SSR GT1's look awesome, Mille Miglia's EVR's look v. cool. Time for some serious shopping!
