How long to run in new RX-8
Hi guys,
I know this mighta been out somewhere in the forum liao, but can't seem to find the right key wordto find it.
Will be getting my ride soon, and was wondering how long should I run it in for.

Hi loonsy, I would like to congrat on your new ride which is coming soon... anyway I just collected my ride last week and this is what I will do if possible: try not to rev over 3.5K and between 500KM to 1000KM, U might wan to try to change mineral oil to 10,000KM and from there to 15,000KM can use semi-syn and from 20,000KM use full-syn... hope this helps.. any pros care to share their explanation? tks hor...

ummm... that is exactly opposite of what the manual says to do. don't be a lazy *** and read the manual. and u'll see what it says- ie don't use break-in oils, don't use synthetic motor oil, and for the first 600 miles drive at varying speeds avoiding full throttle starts.

Secondly, we are in a right hand drive country and measure in kilometres.

So I need an e-mail with big storage.

As told to by Mazda - Our engine has already been run it when we collect our car, so its actually 'ready' for action straight out of the box.
But we should just do it slowly because we are not sure how long the engine has been put through testing. Thus for the first 1000km....we should just take it easy on the revs (4k rpm is a good ball park figure) and then slowly bring it up from then on.
If you are kiasu/kiasee like me and my brother.....we slowly bring up the revs till our first oil change@5000km. At least we know that our engine has been 'run in' properly. Its just like having foreplay with the car.
Engine oil.....i think this has been discussed many many times and everyone has their own views on what oil is good. Whether syn oil....semi syn or mineral....Got money to spare....of cos using the best rotary oil will be the ideal choice but if you decide to stick to mineral oil as its cheap and endosed by mazda itself, why not?

had many many pms for the manuals. u sure save me a lot of effort.
actually for daily driving, u don't really need to read the manual.
most of the functions in our car are quite universal.
But it's good to have the manual around to have a better understanding.

I happened to read the Jap manual and its more comprehensive and there were some key differences. I am poor in chinese and poorer in reading Jap but i can tell there are some differences.
Especially the maintainence schedule and recommended oil. Anyone with opinion?

I will be getting my "8" in 2 weeks time and the manual should be in Jap also coz mine is JDM. Anybody has the manual for MM RX8? Or what is the recommended engine oil grade for Singapore driving condition? 0W-20 or 5W-30 preferred? Need advice.

You may try flaming me but I think the question is valid. We knew that US recommended 5W-20 in their Driver's manual. Knowing that Singapore climate condition could be different from US I just wanted to know what is recommended in Mazda Motor Singapore (MM) RX8 Driver's manual. Just wanted to ensure that I give the best to my beloved 8.

We are here to help. Though most times answers can be found by searching.
Anyway my point of view is to use a thick oil but not too thick for new car. Something like 10w-40 or so. Of course, some will use thicker or thinner, no definate answers.

I had read before that there is even using 10W-60 (not in SG) but I am afraid this is too thick. RX8 is a performance car so many in temperates suggest using even 0W-20. So I guess using 10W-40 or 5W-30 in SG should be alright and it all goes down to individual preferences.
