How do PIs in Singapore handle recalls?
Hi All,
Have my eyes set on an 8, and I've been doing research on this forum.
I see in the US forums that there have been some relatively minor issues with the 8, but there are two recalls for the RX-8 related to the earlier deliveries (before Sep 03). One was for the passenger airbag and another was something to do with the 6-speed manual gearbox. My question is:
How do PIs in Singapore handle recalls?
Another question would be can PIs handle an ECU reflash should one be needed? I've read that Mazda Singapore is unwilling to service any RX-8 not bought from them, and I have concerns about maintainence.
Thanks!

Welcome to the board RX-8ster.
That's a very good question. Frankly, I've not ask my PI about that. But then again, what we get here in Singapore so far are all JDM's spec. Thus, unless you've got contact with Japan, otherwise one would not know if the car have got any recall.
If warranty is one of your main concern, I would suggest you hold on for Mazda Singapore, especially if you're in no hurry to get the car. Not that Mazda Singapore will definetly solve your concern, but at least you've another option to consider with.
cheers

Welcome, RX-8ster. Recalls are definitely a concern so what I do is to use the info from these forums, and ask my PI about them. They will check with their Japanese contacts, who (hopefully) will tell them whether the JDM cars are affected.
So far so good (fingers crossed).

hi RX-8ster,
nice meeting u.
it would definitely be a very big issue if your car is not followed up on recalls. what my company(leco motor) do is, we ll difinitely be the top list to be informed from our suppliers regarding any recalls. once we received the informations, we ll contact our customers to go to the respective workshops for a free checking.
if your car is in the recall list, we ll get it solve immediately.
anyway so far so good, we do not have any complaints on the car yet (maybe ours are jdm specs) but touch wood.
hope this piece of small info would give get u more firm on buying the car n starts joining us
regards
