I don't play flight sims anymore... If I did, I don't think people will wanna fly anymore.

In that case, the minipc's processing power is only as good as a laptop mah... I tot you said laptop power not enough and wanted desktop level processing power??

Hmm.. minipc with Pentium M, add battery for short term engine off use, and you said 10-11" screen is very good liao.... DAMN! Isn't that almost the same as my laptop configuration??? *chey*

Ok.... GPS is definitely a good mod esp since we don't have the navigation option on our 8 s ... I tested one some time ago... loaded it on my laptop and it some what worked. Granted I got lost but I was also going a bit too fast. I am sure it has gotten better since then. I had to pair the laptop with a GPS antenna and the mapping software was Kingmap...

Car monitoring..... plug and play...
basic paperwork, storage of documents, MP3s, video.... easy stuff for a PC

Some gaming... again what you plan to play...

Video/MP3 playback... easy stuff again for a PC...

Connectable to my home Wifi network... as long as your home is next to the parking lot and not like something like the 10th floor.

Car security (maybe a controllable camera which will record to PC or remote voice control)... I would recommend a separate piece of equipment... I saw CCTV for the car that stores the images on a SD card... uses less power. I'll get the supplier when I go back to my office.

Hopefully connectable to external internet networks (Waiting for wimax)... like I said already... what we can do Now and today.... in the future, my car also can run on water, but today different story... If wimax, then plug and play lor...

Lousy at CS? Someone trying to be modest issit?

Play flight sims? Ppl can fly the real thing, dun need to play flights sims like us ppl who can't fly a plane. And besides, if he wanted flight sims, he can play more realistic ones at SQ training center.

I know that. Doesn't mean pilots do not like flight sims. Racers like GT4 and my friends in Army loves shooters.

I tried GPS too. Biggest problem is that SG is so built up that signals always get lost.

No lah... I know some friends who are really damn good, competition level type so I know my own skill level and need all the extra help I can get from speed boosts. No matter how good someone's skill level is, if kenna lag, still LPPL. If I have an induce lag mod... sure win one

Hey before I can fly the real thing, I spent a lot of time flying sims oso mah. Just that nowadays, not in SG 1/2 the time, so dun have all the time in the world liao. Besides, the more I play flight sims, the more I demoralised I get coz I still can't fly it properly. Ha ha... I blame it on spatial disorientation due to the lack of G-forces when playing flight sims.

Playing games can be a whole lot different from the real thing. Great at CS will not make a great soldier in the field.

Afterall, they are only games and are limited as such.

I used to love flight sims; in fact i used to love it and was real good at them. But that does not make me a good pilot right? Now i am more into battlefield 2. But one thing for sure, playing so often really sharpen some of my skills.

So when's the next CS session? We didn't manage to play on Saturday night, and I'm itching to play.

And the voice of reason asks.... Are you going to play any of these games in the car ???

So who is going to be the first to put a computer in his 8 in SG ?? Come on Emperor... I know you want it... If I do it, I would probably follow flyer and do a laptop thingy, so i guess that doesn't really count as carputer.

I for one would like to see that 8" screen on a flexi arm running windows media center... MP3 and videos... DVD movies and Internet....mmmmmm

True. The miniPC is just a convient way to add a PC to the car. I think its slightly faster and overclockable.

So maybe a full PC is still better than the miniPC. I prefer the real stuff anyway; only downside is the space and power needed.

You already have a 7" screen which looks neat in its own din. Why do you want the extra 1" and flexi arm?

If i were to install a PC, it will be more intergrated with the car than just adding it in like a laptop.

I would do it now if not for all my commitments now; baby, work, upgrading other car parts, planning my holiday, etc.

Well that 7" I have is does not have a VGA input. So I can't install a PC, so I am looking for an additional one.

I actually wanted to buy the same one you have for my previous car. I did not notice it lacked a VGA input. That really sucks.

But it may look strange to have 2 monitors in your car.

Yo Emperor, any progress with the LCD screen mounting idea you had? Almost a month since the end of last month, so wondering if we can share ideas on how to mount the LCD. Of the entire computer setup, I think this is the most important because it's the one that is most visible so has to be relatively neat. I've tested fitted my idea and it seems to be working so far, but I'll have to see how it holds up after a few weeks.

That is the car from "5 Axis" we are not that pro yet. How to view that plasma in the rain.... Flyer's mod is a solid proof of concept with the avaliable stuff he has and a very modest budget.

Bro... no lah, that LCD screen is only meant for others to see when the car is stationary. Mine is in the car for my passenger(s) and me to enjoy on the move.

lohsk: I've installed it with most of the cabling tucked away neatly, quite a neat setup if I say so myself.

Can tell u're a DIY'er at heart bro... yeah, it's not too difficult to install. Current applications are iTunes, movies, camera, G-tech data downloading/analysis, mobile internet surfing and basic office work. Planning to add more camera angles, GPS naviation (waiting for lohsk's recommendation) and ecu tuning (by proper tuner) in the near future. Will post pics when I get some time, been busy with work lately.

Morgan, nice LCD... looks almost identical to Lincoln's setup. But what we're talking about is running computers in the car. Want to run PC applications liao, playing DVDs and MP3s alone is not enough for backside itchy DIY'ers.
