Yes, it is acclaimed to be more efficient than the 4AT by 15% +/- in terms of fuel consumption.

bro,

u never tell him yr secret??

and that is your XXXL GT wing. the one that can add 30HP and can fly u to heaven.

Your ride stop liao, the wing still flying! and that's how u get 400+++ with 55L

and the super wide "Viper" stripes that add another 30HP and when you stop liao

your VIPER stripes still hissing! or is that your tyre punctured???

depends on driving style and type of roads you are normally on.......even manual 6sp can get less than 350 km........i would say 6at is with a 6-port rotary engine....the rest is up to you ........dun believe those salesman....they will tell you anything to get you to buy .........just be prepared to pay more on petrol if you get this car.

my 2 cents

Mine (4AT) is 7.2km per litre (my very first tank). I'm still running in my RX8. I'm expecting a 8-8.5km per litre.

As for 6AT, i think the best it can go is 10km per litre (which i think is very good).
Anyway, when you buy this car, you are going for the looks and power, FC is not a concern.

Hi all, I am new here and my 6AT will be here next month ! Hopefully ! - anyway i am totally agree with mucleman we go for look & power if you decided to buy RX8, just think about it where got sportscar which is economy in FC ? just to share some xperience with all....

I started driving in 1989, My1st car RX-7 Savanna=5km/litre, 2.) Levin=7km/litre, 3.)VR4=7km/litre, 4.)silvia=6.5km/litre and people tell me I should buy Honda FC very good ! but i am no-fren of integral, so I brought a CR-V in 2003 and i got 8km/litre, so until now i really dont know what car out there i like which is good in FC ? if the new 6AT RX8 can get 8-10km it would be my best x'mas gift !

but I got some good news for those who care about the 6AT FC, recently I checked with some Japanese car franatic working associates in Japan regarding the 6AT - according to them the emphasis of the new 6AT is what we want to hear ....a better Fuel Consumption ! wah song leow lah this time.....

Wah!! 12km/L?? If the 6MT can hit 13km/L, then I will believe that the 6AT is able to hit 12km/L.

no offence intended, bro....i only meant those hard-pushing sales who do anything to get a deal without knowing their stuffs...i encountered quite a few. anyway i do not think having a 6-pot AT will improve much in terms of FC, since my friend driving a 6MT told me he is having a worst FC than my 4AT. bottomline: still depends on driver....nowadays i drive with a lighter foot, i can get about 380 km. compared to last few months which i cheong alot, i get about 330 km.
cheers

It may depend on the right foot of the driver, but the car specs do play a big part in FC too. Coz if u were the one driving the 6MT, you may hit 420km. Which is an improvement, just that the driver is the problem. Mazda can guarantee that the car have better fuel efficiency, but cannot guarantee that their customers are light footed.

HI guys, interesting topic you got here. Is the FC the only main difference with the 6 and 4 speed AT?

if i'm not wrong, if you have 2 totally identical cars (assuming all other human, driving pattern and technical factors the same except for the different no of gears)... the one with the high no of gears will always achieve better FC due to the gear ratio?

no, the one with high no of gears will always drinks more due to the closer gear ratio. Closer gear ratio means easier to rev higher, rev higher will drinks more.

Closer gear ratio also means that u will be running higher RPM at a constant speed e.g 100km/h compare to longer gear ratio.

take Evo for example. There are 6MT GSR and 5MT RS/GT. FC for 6MT was report as 18/24 MPG; 5MT was 20/27 MPG.

You sure or not??

your 1st statement is true only when your right foot do not adjust to the closer ratio. Example, if 5MT need 30% throttle to hit 4k rpm, you do not 30% throttle on the 6MT, but instead 25% throttle.

your 2nd statement is

Oh... I get it.... your 2nd statement is derived from cars changing their transmission to close ratio. This will only happen if you change to close ratio without increasing the number of gears. The 6MT will always have a better power distribution thru the gears than the 5MT, which will result in better fuel efficiency.
