Yes, pumping less than full tank will improve FC due to less weight being carried around however I doubt it would really amount to much savings since a full tank is less than 50 kilos and extra trips to the petrol station would easily wipe out any potential savings unless you are fortunate (or unfortunate IMO) enough to live right beside one. Shell recommends to pump a full tank each time to prevent rust forming in the fuel tank. I think modern cars like our 8s should not have that problem, but nevertheless I fill up a full tank each time just for convenience.

sgren, Singaporeans being the way they are about cars will always be willing to spend the extra dollar on their beloved cars. Our stock 8s are tuned to run on 95 octane and will perform no better running on 98 octane petrol, thus no significant fuel savings. As for the meet-up on Sunday, I think it'll be hard to get people to meet-up on short notice especially on a long holiday weekend since most would have made their own plans. You can try though, coz there'll always be a few who don't have much of a social life like me... :D Too bad, I love my job too much... :p

Unit is in Khatib Camp, but usually go to back to SAFTI for training each year. Live in Katong, so it's a nice long drive along the ECP / AYE all the way to camp & back.

98 or 95 is actually about the anti-knocking effects of the fuel. 100 means all the fuel can be burn smoothly and thus no knockings and 0 means will knock badly. So if your engine can take lower octane, it is unnecessary to use an higher octane fuel. Furthermore, higher octane does not imply higher energy density and it does not translate to better FC.

I have not tried 95 yet and thus cannot comment but I suppose 95 would be fine as well...

I'm getting the company discount with Esso and I tried both 98 and 95 and found no difference (in fact 95 slightly better mileage). So based on Esso 95, it works out to about 6.7km/dollar... Hope this helps.
But the "ball center" habit die hard and i find myself stepping on the "rudder padel" to prevent yaw during corners or bends. Probably cos I normally go into it above 100km/h and thus need some right foot to steer...slowing down makes it even more difficult to turn.

I can't remember if MM made any FC claims, but I recall reading 14.7L/100km somewhere which works out to 6.8km/l. I bet they would claim something conservative so the actual figure is better. In any case, FC depends a lot on your style of driving. To get 10km/l, no problem... come out and push car lor... :D

I think you do a round island cruise at night on expressway at abt 100km/h for a full tank you might also get 10km/l. But what is the point?

The best I ever had did not reach 7.5km/l yet. Looks like my right leg is especially heavy.

Aiyah... surely everyone can tell I was just kidding... if FC is really that critical, might as well dun drive a sports car. There is no such thing as free power without fuel (although you can try to reduce the losses or optimise the delivery/transfer). Anyway, I'm already getting better FC than what MM stated, so no complaints.

from my opinion if you always take note of the FC then you are not really enjoying the car. as long as dont drive like me can already, once every 2 days pump, think i more like dispatch. :D

Kinda getting sick of this thread...wish someone can just close it. If you can afford the car, who cares about consumption .....to put it bluntly. Just enjoy the acceleration and the head turnings.......

I see SARS had not claimed its final victim....sorry.....couldn;t help it....

Hey....how far can we go in our 8's when the low gas light indicator comes on? Anyone taken it to the extreme (i.e. runs out of gas)

If you are spending above 1k per mth on petrol...i think it is worth a thought my friend... not everyone is so generous as u.

To set record straight, I am not complaining or whining abt the high FC as I already expected it. But if changing a particular fuel could result in significant savings, I wouldn't mind. Why spend more for nothing?

Genesis, I haven't run out of gas b4 but I cut it real close. Pump in almost 60L. Run close to 90km after light came out. My FC isn't fantastic...so base on your FC you should be able to calculate yours. Using mine, I think the tank has about 13-14l left when the light is on.

Hey bro...welcome back to the threads...out flying were ya! 90 km after light on at avg of 8km/L so u did about 11 L before fill....so your estimate of 13-14 L left is just about right...close tho! Thanks for the info...now I know about how far I can go when the light goes on.
