I'm curious if anyone here has tried putting 92RON or 95RON gas in their cars? I've been reading alot about some people in the US trying the regular gas and seeing improvements in mileage but haven't read about anyone in Singapore trying it out.

I am on my last tank of Caltex Vortex (98) now with about 1/8th of the tank to go. Did 2 round trips fr Upp East Coast to Jurong Town Hall Road on the ECP while the rest is a mix of start-stop city driving in town. Odo reading is now 370km and will probably hit 400km before "low-fuel" light appears. This is now an all time high record for me since I got the car in Feb. Mileage is now 2600km and I have been hitting 6k rpms at times with this tank. Btw, mine's an auto. Will be switching to Shell (98) from now on to see if i can better this record. Will post!

My ride's pretty short, for work day to day East Coast to Beach Road. Average around 340km per tank works out to be 6.4km/l. Once in a while with long drive up north or west would see a little increase in mileage around up to 380km per tank which is 7.3km/l. Mainly on EssonMobil EM8000. I'll definately bring up to at least once 8k rpm in very drive.

When u folks mention per tank, u meant 50l or 60l (ie. the petrol top-up amount, not the tank capacity with reserve)?

Reviving an old thread.... cos petrol burning my pockets...

Currently on Shell 98...with occasional v-power(seen no diff). The low fuel lights up normally at 330-350. Once drove to 410km and top up a whopping 60+ litres(my god...almost dead). Once I got a 7.4km/l one off but never happened anymore.

Instead of thinking about km/l, why not share about km/$ as the main purpose is to save $$$. I dun mind going for more trip to the statn if it means saving some money.

Consistent 50l to 52l running 420km to 430 km. Above 8km/l always on Shell 98.
Chiong once in a while but usually highway driving.

Manwe bro... not flying propeller anymore, dun need right rudder liao... so go easy on the right foot... lolz. I'm getting at least 450km between pumps of around 55L which works out to 8+km/l. I'm getting the company discount with Esso and I tried both 98 and 95 and found no difference (in fact 95 slightly better mileage). So based on Esso 95, it works out to about 6.7km/dollar... Hope this helps.

specs: 61L 6-Mannual
Petrol: Shell 98
Done: 2K km

everytime my rx-8 reach slightly below 1/4 tank & be4 the low-fuel indicator is up i'll bring the car to shell & refill my petrol. at this point of time my rx-8 will be done with 400km... with occasionally revving the RPM till 5500rpm at the 1st 1-3 gears

cost of refilling at that mark is S$72 w/o 5% so after 5% is ard S$68

Wootwoot, can you stop treating the RX8 as an economical car... 400km with a quarter tank left is criminal - those poor rotors, can't even get to sing at 9000rpm!

Just kidding :D Great mileage, man.

Do you most of you use 95 or 98.
wouldnt the 98 be better since its cleaner?

so far for brand havent really felt much of a difference BUT for caltex PLATINUM, now thats really good. tried on my last car and seems the pick up is better but as for price it is a little bit on the high side and burns faster too.
would love to try that petrol again, provided there isnt too big a hole in my pocket.

I just switched to 95, and seems to be the same as 98, I don't notice any difference. 95 or 98 refers to the octane number of the petrol, it has nothing to do with cleaniness of the fuel.

Averaging about 7km/l. I used to pump full tank every week and that lasted 350km to the 1/4 tank mark. I stopped pumping full tank when the HSBC use your credit card every day promo began and I found that not carrying so much petrol around helps my FC by not carruying so much unnecessary weight around. My daily commute requirement is about 1/4 tank per working week, then I fill up 1/4 tank at the beginning of the weekend, and then 1/4 tank at end of weekend to get through the week. I only pump full tank if there's a special discount on petrol. Always used Shell, haven't tried other brands.

so far i have tried driving with full tank and 1/4 tank (on old car) but not that much of a difference. Further more feel it is more troublesome to head to the petrol station that many times.

as for the petrol issue, why would people still want to use 98 and you have to pay more?
