Fuel Consumption

Just wanted to get some feedback from JDM specs RX8 owners regarding their fuel consumption, now that you've had your cars for a while. I expect it to be worse than that achieved by our US counterparts, seeing that the JDM cars are tuned for higher power.

I am averaging 14L/100km : 20.2 mpg (UK) : 16.8 mpg (US)

Yup, getting abt the same consumption as you...due in no part to a heavy right foot, eh? :D

The North American cars seem to average a bit higher than ours. So is it indeed because of the engine tuning?

I don't know abt mauritius, but distances are quite short in singapore...my daily commute to work is abt 7 km only, so I definitely have a lot less highway travel as compared to the US. So I'm not sure if our slightly heavier consumption is just due to the different engine tuning.

440, man this is outstanding mileage. What was your average speed like? This morning my fuel light came on at 355 km.

My commute to work is about 10 km with 80% highway but I rarely go faster than 100 km/h because of traffic. I would actually burn more fuel on a long highway drive with little traffic because I would drive a lot faster and harder.

Wow, that a pretty decent mileage you've got there, SingRX8. Didn't know that the 210 version is so much more economical thanthe 250 version! Cool!

Hi all! U're all so lucky!

Me drive an auto RX. Mileage is BAD... Full tank seldom gives me more than 300 km.

Got chance to drive around in the late morning last week (i.e. traffic clear) & 'ran'... Fuel light came on at 250 km!!!

But all in all, the RX is a BLAST!!!

Cheers to all!

Well, just got my best tank to date - 410km. This comes from 2 trips to Tuas and once to Senoko, and numerous times to the redline :D Pumped in 54.7 litres just now.

Can anyone tell me how much the car can travel after the low fuel light comes on? Managed to get 104km from half tank b4 the light came on, drove for another 16km and it was below the final mark, was praying that the thing wont stop b4 i reached the petrol staion and pumped in 56.8 litres.

I shld think at around 40-50 km from low fuel light till you run out, depending on driving style. Based on the 8's fuel tank capacity of 60litres, the remaining 3.2 litres in your tank shld give you another 18-20km.

But I wouldn't push my luck, knowing how the Renesis sucks fuel during start-stop traffic condition! Normally, I will head for the petrol station the moment the fuel light comes on.

Not too far - I discovered on the way to work about 4 weeks ago. Light on - to - really empty - about 25 KM in my car. I stop and get gas at a 1/4 tank now. John

After some experimenting, I can safely say that your driving style is the most important factor affecting your fuel consumption.
On my current tank I managed to get 240 km at the half-way mark, hardly ever revving above 4000 rpm. On average I used to get about 200 km at the half-way mark (highly spirited driving). Meaning a 20% increase in mileage!
However I haven't been having any fun on my last 240 km.

Maybe I have a LHD JDM tuned RX-8 cause my mileage really sucks! I'd love to get what most of you guys get. My most recent check was 75% highway and 25% city and I only got 16.77 miles per US gallon. I have been averaging 13.8 - 14.2 miles per gallon when I do almost all city driving. It matters not whetherI am heavy footed or not with these figures. I have tried driving conservatively and not. Not is much mor fun, though.
