Engine Oil Cooler - 3rd Party

Just saw an ad for a engine oil cooler for MT as well as AT in the Hot Stuff magazine today. Has anyone here in Singapore this in their car. Wondering, as the engine get really hot and for rotary, it seemed, the engine oil dissipate almost 60% of the heat....(hmm must have read this somewhere, can;t remember tho'), be a good idea to further cool down the oil ......

But I am wondering if this can be fitted to RX-8 ? Anyone ?

kgoh, isn't your 8's from MM?? You should have 2 oil cooler already (where the fog lamps are). And that's already 1 more than most of us here who's the JDM's version. Unless you're bring your 8 down to the track where keeping the oil temp down is essential, otherwise you should be quite 'cool' for the time being.

No-leh....couldn;t find the other one in my car (supposed to laugh, here). I got mine from PI.

I jsut drive my 8 around town for an hour or so, and when I stop at the road side, it seemed that the fan kick in.......I did not even ramp the car hard, so breaking it in.....sigh.

So, thinking about driving all the way up to Penang, may get the engine overheated.....

Oooh... sorry, thought you have got the MM's 8. So you're one of us too.
Well the 8 is known for running hot! The fan will kick in even when the engine has been turned off. As for the engine overheating, that's probably the job of the radiator, rather than the oil cooler.

Ah....that is where we are all wrong. Unlike the normal piston car enginer.....the engine oil in rotary takes hell a lot more heat. That is why it is even more important to look at the following when selecting engine oil - flash point, ash index, additives used and highest temperature rated and we can forget about pour point (there is no winter here as well as viscosity index), and more importantly test data ........!!!

Alamak, what am I doing, turning this into another oil thread...shish, we had enough of those, right ? To each his own .....

Well, if anyone does install a 3rd party engine oil cooler here in Singapore, would appreciate their opinion.

ps what happen to your amsoil ground buy thread? was wondering if you've got the oil yet? and what's your impression?

kgoh, dun worry bout the enigne over-heatin on ur long distance drive...in fact, its cooler drivin on a higher gear & passin wind is coolin the cooler,UNLESS u r keepin in 3/4 gear @ 7-8k thro out.
like neon said b4,he constantly gettin 100-110 deg on our street here, oso a jdm like urs.i'l b chgin mi 2 units to aluminiums s it dissipate faster then coppers.can try brands like Mocal.if u r still doubtful, fit up a oil temp gauge will b a gd investment 2.

Mr M-ster
Yes...yes.....amsoil oil is coming in soon. Am discussing with my partner in US for a cheaper shipper,so that I can order a pallet. And get good discounts. It seemed to me the best oil to date and doesn;t have any additives inside. Anyone like to order have to go the group buy site and register....(the admins also want 3% of overall sales.). I thought nobody in Singapore 8 forum wants this oil (sigh...and sob sob sob.....) except those in the other forum who can't wait (Singapore too).

Mr Cuscorex:
Both the Cu and Al material have same configuration set up ? If so, Cu will dissipate heat faster than Al. Thermal conductivity for Cu is higher than Al. But, Al is easier to work with, soft, compliance and most importantly....vely vely light. And Mr lex .....where u go and install that gauge thingy, eh ? and when for your cooler ? After that, can we all meet up...dying to see these modifications......another thing, I noticed on Brother Neon's car....voltage stabilizer......chin lau nau (salivating over the gadget)

Vely long time aleady we did not meet. Someone please organize one....otherwise...Aug vely difficult leh....I will be almost out of Singapore for 3 weeks.....so far still can chiak chua.
